I would think the HF tranny would suck, the gear ratio is probably totally steered towards fuel economy
wasnt there a dx 5 speed? If so, it might be more driveable than the HF

yeah, but the hf looks like its pretty wimpy compared even to the dx, personally i just wouldnt bother with the effort without at least going to the dx transmission.
but if you arent worried about performance and just want better mileage i guess itd work fine. but if you really dont care about perf why bother with the mpfi swap?

noooooooooo. The hf tranny will be the biggest mistake youll ever make.Get atleast a dx tranny its the same as the si tranny except for the final drive.Believe me i have an Hf tranny on my 1.6 ZC and my acceleration sucks even with I/H/E/CLUTCH STAGE 2/SS/

The hf tranny will be good if you plan to go turbo in the future.

Dx trans are cheap as hell.. I have one in my garage for sale ($50 plus shipping) with a bad mainshaft bearing. Works fine just makes noise. Could be rebuilt easily.
But I upgraded to an Si... definately a noticable difference. I would go with an Si, if you can find a good one... mine grinds from 2nd to 3rd... :banghead:
