95 Caravan Start Relay Problem

hi--i have a 95 caravan se with a 3.3 v6. when i turn the key to the start position, things click but the starter wont kick over. when i jump the starter circuit the engine turns over, starts and runs. but when i put it in gear nothing happens. the engine runs but wont go into gear. replaced the relay, did not help. bypassed the neutral backup switch to ground. still wont turn over. have the haynes book but the schematics are not quite helpful. can anyone help?

It could be a problem with the gearbox/or tranny. i think this might unfortunally take a trip to the darlorship :disappoin

I'm inclined to agree with you. One question though. Does a transmission failure prevent the engine from turning over?
