overheating 95 Olds Cutlass

I have a 95 olds cutlass. When started temp gauge goes to hot, if I rev the car up the gauge goes back down, but continues to fluctuate back and forth. When the gauge is at hot, there is no heat in the car, but when it moves back down, heat kicks in. Thanks for your help

Sounds like the coolant temperature sensor.
