ok first off i would like to start a new thread. i thought ultimate shoot out got out of hand so here we go.. whats the better buy
Mustang Gt, Mach1, Cobra,. blue oval's big 3..what gives you the most bang for the buck and the most potential.



personally i like the mach 1 u get a DOHC with 310hp,,and the possibility currenty is 7s with a stock block.. though i may start the new thread up when those new 3v GT's come out next year

Cobra none of the other long blocks are even comparable to how much abuse the Cobras can take. The MACH1 or GT are gonna need brand new short blocks to get to the levels the Cobra can on the stock block.

Ok first off under the ram air of the Mach 1 is an 01 cobra engine, so ur getting a cobra with some fashion upgrades and a ram air. but to compair with a GT is not as reasonable. If you are looking for the most HP abilty then the 03 cobra or the mach 1 can give you that. The cobra giving you alot more to start with, and swapping out the superchager and full exhaust going to give you around 75 - 100 more. If you want to save money and just looking for a 350 RWHP a GT can get you there, but you would have to do like everybolt on they make. As for the new 3V, i do not know how it going to go. ford has been doing great with the 2v SOHC and the 4v DOHC y change. Also when it first comes out parts are going to be hard to get and expensive. Personally i can not wait hopefully the new engine will drop the prices on the 4.6 2v so i can start doing more work.

I think I would buy a Mach 1. It's just screams at me, "Craig, you know you want me." Actually my plans are to try and pick up a used one next year some time if at all possiable. If I can swing the cash, then maybe a used 03 Cobra would be in store.

How do I know well hmmm let's start with the simplest answer... I can read for one. Maybe if you ever picked up a 5.0 magazine or MM&FF you would know what guys are getting on stock block 03 Cobra's and how come no one has been able to get those numbers on the previous NA Cobra motors with a S/C or Nitrous?

Ok let's also go into it a lil more... Do you know what the difference is between the 03 Cobra short block and the previous NA Cobra block.... I bet you don't, I bet you think they are exactly they same. Why don't you go find out what the differences are before you open your mouth. I don't know of any 03 Cobra's with a 100,000 miles on them but I'll tell you what niether a stock MACH1 or a GT short block is going to be able to push 600RWHP and even last one 1/4 mile blast. They are doing it on 03 Cobras though.

I would think that the fact that he works at a Pro 5.0 shop might help too. Just a thought?

Cobra's are just in another league with that supercharger and 6-speed. The fun of a 6-speed manual just can't be expressed. Most people don't think there is much mod room left, with the supercharger already being on there, but that's not true. Just read some stang magazines and look at their cobras. But, if you're really looking to save money you can always get a GT and S/C it. Maybe I'm just a sucker for grey bullit wheels and a big, fat, fake hood scoop.

1100 RWHP, sure, with a full-on race motor, 30+ pounds of boost, a big air/water intercooler in the dash and nothing that even resembles a street car anymore. X2C is going for 1000+ at the wheels with an upgraded stock location air/water intercooler and a small frame T88. The 4V motors have way more potential than the 2V motors.

Except take a look at that motor and what in god name does that have to do with a stock 2v? I never said you couldn't use the 2V design to make big hp just not with the stock internal parts unlike the 03 Cobra. Which ends up making the 03 Cobra the better buy which is the question you posed in this thread. Just be a man except that your wrong and you ran into someone who happens to know more than you about the subject. It's not a big deal everyone is wrong at times.

...Back to the subject. Should I SC my 99 GT, or go for a used '03 Mach 1? (I don't see myself ever being able to swing the payments for a Cobra)

If it was between a 99+GT S/C with a Kenne Bell S/C ro a Mach1 it would be a tough call. The bottom line is the GT would be faster but it wouldn't have 4V heads and it wouldn't be a MACH1. So that is your decision.

Sorry, no. 50 grand gets you over 1G on the skidpad with shitty runflat tires, 105-110 foot 60-0 braking, 0-60 in 4-flat, top speed of 170, and an all-around insanely fast car, they RIP on a road course. Go with a stage 2 heads/cam package, get some better tires on the stock wheels, drop the stock suspension down a few inches, and a Z06 will run with any other street car you can come up with (except for the 2000 pound roadster kit cars, which are pretty much untouchable)
