Does the eclipses and the talons use a 50:50 front/rear lock awd like the imprezas and the evos or does power transfer to two wheels as long as traction is maintained like the skyline gtr

ive heard that it is an all-time 50/50 split in ideal, but im believing now that it only goes to 50/50 when i think the VC locks due to spin. however i know that it is not a 2 wheel drive vehicle until spin.

I thought the 50:50 wasnt very good on-road because the engine has to power 4 wheels when not needed

my friend with a s13 sr20det fmic 6 puck clutch with no engine mods stock turbo can take a new subaru wrx sti with 300hp and the 50:50 lock

the subaru gets a good launch but the s13 catches up very quickly

'very good' it may not be so for gas milage or getting that last horse because it wastes more energy in getting power 50:50, but i assure you the mitsu engineers did it for a reason, and i would guess because of traction in all conditions.

EDIT>> note that even when the VC is open, it is (i think) powering 1 front 1 rear wheel, so it is never FWD or RWD.. which is what i was trying to think of before.

The center diff is an open diff until there is enough wheelspin to heat the viscous fluid in the Viscous Coupler enough to lock it up. Then its 50/50. BUT, if you have tons of power, and traction on only one end, the VC can slip somewhat. But this should be a rare situation in normal driving or racing conditions. So, its open as long as front and rear wheel speeds are close, and locked when they differ.
