Hey Guys
iam interested in buying my first car, 1997 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, but it has one problem with it...and i don't know much about these cars.... the first gear synchro needs reamplacement or at least that's what the guy tells me....when i took the car for a spin, coming up too the lights and putting it into first gear is just popped out and kepted popping out of the first gear.. i was just wondering if it'a a big problem and is it expensive to fix...any information would be great
Thanks

You're looking at some bucks. The transmission will have to be pulled and disassembled. I had a Toyota truck (84) that did the same thing, that is, popping right out of 1st gear, and I ended up having to get a rebuilt trans for it, as the repairs would have cost about the same.
A lot depends too on what kind of trans shops you have in your area. I pulled the trans out of my Talon and brought it to a shop where they rebuild them. I got lucky, I needed a new case, because the housing where the front bearing seats had worn and was allowing the bearing to shift around. They got a case from a bone yard, replaced the bearing, and put new gaskets and seals for $450.00. That same work could easily have cost well over $1000 somewhere else.
