ok i have 2 400W subs and want to put them in my car but want to do it right. the main question is that if i buy a 800W amp, do i need to buy a better alternator or battery to make it work right without taking away all my voltage. also another question, i think i have everything but...do all i need to install the amp is the amp and a wiring kit? do i really need a fan or maybe a bigger alternator? dont kno if it matter but just to let you know, i am buying a better head unit, a kenwood kdc-722 :) . i heard that you need to have preouts and i checked and this radio does so... i think im fine, let me know if you can think of anything else i need. thnx

your alternator should be fine

Yea it should, unless its an extremely low amperage alternator like maybe 35 amps...lol. You might want to look into getting a deep cycle battery, however. You dont want to do any damage to your battery and then have your car not start. Id look into an Optima Yellow top.

it depends on the car and the amp. my dei 1100d is one of the most efficient sub amp available. 77% efficient at 2ohm (750-800 watts at 2ohm). i hooked it up to my dad's 1988 honda civic (60A alt.) and battery lasted 1 month. the weak point was the alternator since the amp demanded more than the alternator could provide.
even with an efficient amp, it depends on your car. and don't get me started on class A/B :eek7: :iceslolan

The problem with many HO alternators is that their output at low idle speeds is often less than the factory one

Well if its possible you could always stick on a smaller pulley, but then that starts getting complicated....complicated bad, easy good.

yea, the complicated part woukld be having to replace it regularly. Putting a smaller pulley on it WILL make it turn faster, at idle and every other speed. If you rev your engine a lot, you will toast the bearings on the alternator a lot quicker than normal.

Now who ever revs their engine?...lol

im usin a 1200.1 JBL amp and its runnin off my main battery. The only problem ive had is just listenin to it with the car off for too long, then my battery will die. but thats it

Iv done that....man does that suck. Except in my case I completely fried my battery. I had to jump start my car 4 times in one day. :banghead:
