Remote trunk release

I had a remote trunk release that wasn't disengaging, making the trunk stay open-
After removing the actuator, I disassembled it and found that the helical gear was apparently worn a bit, allowing the gear to rub on the housing, preventing it from returning to the disengaged position. I put a small washer to space it out some, and it's working fine again-
Pretty easy fix if anyone encounters this problem-

my 96 caprice trunk release does not work at all, it did at one point. do you know of a way to fix it?
