Hello! I am a BMW newbie. Two weeks ago I purchased a '93 325is 'project car' as my son's first car. It was a previous father/son project that went terribly wrong. The power windows only move about 1 1/2 inches per press of the button, press again, you get another 1 1/2 inches of movement. Applies to either front window, going up or down. I believe the previous owner replaced the window switches, as they look pristine. There is also a receipt for a comfort relay, but I do not know if it was installed. I have performed the one-touch reset routine without favorable results. Any ideas?

Somewhere in the power winding mechanism, there should be a small metall piece that use to fall off. This magnetic metall piece is used by the switch in the winding mechanism. Remove the door panels, locate this metall piece and put it back on it's place by the switch inside the door that controls the power winding mechanism... My english is'nt too good when it comes to theese matters but... perhaps, you can check out "autopower.se" and click 'forum' and register... this is a swedish site but posting your question in english should'nt be a problem. I had the same problem on my -92 320i and i found the solution to the problem there =)

The fact that your motors move the windows up and down that the motors are receiving current through the window switches. However, not to insult you, but are you sure there's nothing loose on the regulator or door panel that can be binding the regulator movement? Also, when you performed the motor reset, did you hold the switch for nine seconds in its latent position (either at the top or bottom of regulator travel)?
