98 Lumina Check engine light

Was wondering if someone could provide me with some info real quick. The Check engine light came on this morning while my wife drove to work. She said it kinda hesitated a little then it came on. Said it was fine the rest of the way. Anyway, I had her take it to a local parts place to get the code. They said it read a missfire on CYL 3. Told here it was either a plug or wire. No I just replaced both no but 5-10K ago. Put in AC Platnium plugs and AC wires.

Anyway, I don't have my book in front of me but does anyone know where CYL 3 is located? Front or backside? Please say Front!

Platinum plugs aren't good for these motors. They don't last very long. Since the DIS system that GM uses fires BOTH plugs on a coil at the same time, even if only one of them needs to fire. That's why I like to call it waste-a-spark ignition. It could be that the platinum has already burnt out in that plug.

Or it could be that it was just a random miss-fire. Is the Check Engine Light still on? If you have the code cleared..does it come back?

Not true...Platinum plugs were standard in those engines..
#3 cylinder is located in the rear of the engine...
Misfire could be caused by a couple things..secondary ignition problem or possibly a injector fault.
Take a close look at the coil towers for signs of corrosion.

I'm thinking it might be a coil pack or whatever they are called. I'm going to look into it tonight. I will also check that plug and wire. I put back in it exactly what came from the factory so I know Platinum plugs are not the problem.

I had the same problem with my Lumina. I did the spark plug, wire and coil pack thing as was suggested in the manual. It ended up being a clogged fuel injector. You'll have to take your car to the GM dealership and have them hook your car up to their cool machine. Your car will run great afterwards. Cost is a little over $100 for this.
