Me and a buddy of mine have an argument going, I say that the Chevelle and El Camino are the same car, except one has a pickup bed, and my friend says that they are similar but not the same. if any chevy enthusiasts can help us out it would be much appreciated

You're both right :). The ElCamino is actually a Malibu(Chevelle) station wagon. The next time you're inside of an ElCamino, look behind the seat, and in the "storage" area under the bed. That's where the back seat of a station wagon goes. From the first ElCamino ('59 I think), to the last one in '87, they're all like that. As for the minor differences in the Malibu/ElCamino, the 70-72 Malibu/Chevelle had "styling grooves" in the front fenders and doors, where as the 70-72 ElCamino were rounded. Station wagons and ElCaminos of those years also had round front blinkers (in the bumper), where as the Malibu/Chevelle had rectangular ones. There were minor differences, but they were the same...sort of. All of the options that you could order were the same (engine, trans and such). So you're both right. Now you can stop arguing :).
