Brakes just went out

My brakes went out on me completely heading home when I applied them I heard a sound that sounded like something broke or was loose(like the shaking of metal) then a few miles down the road I applied them
and they snapped back so I couldnt press down and my car wouldnt stop (almost wrecked I was very fortunate!) Maybe a warped rotor or something? Anyway I did make it back home doing like 10-20 mph barely just barely pressing on them enough to slow down at red lights. Does anyone know what couldve broke?

Unfortunately without a complete inspection of the brake system, no one can really tell you what is going on....
This is a safety item...please take your car to a factory trained, certified technician an have them check it.
