My friend just got the APR 91 Octane chip
He claims that it adds +50hp
I dont' know if a chip can do that much to a 2000 Passat especially the one he has. I need an experts opinion cuz he's being all arrogant now and rubbing it in my face.
Yes it does add 50 hp or No it doesn't
that's all i need to know

Performance chips do make a difference. I don't know if it's as great in real life as they claim on paper. Here's their claim which is about a max of 50hp increase using 93 octane fuel. Engine life will be shorter and the chip will void the warranty.

I have a 2000 Passat with a GIAC chip (Garret). I installed it a 6k and now have 111k and have gotten every bit of performance out of it. I went to visit a friend with the same year car and took my whole computer with me to install in his car for a few days. He bought his own chip the next week. The difference in performance is astonishing. Trust me and a go beat your friend down with a chip of your own:)

You didn't say much about hois passat. (diesel or benzin)...
Either way +50 hp is not so much and he probabily got them from his cip.
So ...YES it's posible.
The only problem is with that is that for a passat +50 hp is much more than the car could handle and he will definetly have problems with it...that is if he ONLY changed the power of the car.
I have a 2000 Passat (1.9 TDI -116 HP) and now it has some 145-150 hp.
The car really runs now but I had problems with it : the clutch disk broke, as it's not ment to handle so much power... Another problem....The turbo crashed....I had to change the turbine....
So...you got the ideea...if you want power from a passat...you kind of have to change a lot of things....
best regards,
Bogdan
