Very short range on keyless entry?

I recently bought my wife a 2001 Sonata GLS and the factory keyless entry seems to have an absurdly short range to it. I am talking anywhere from 1 o 10 feet depending on which way I am walking toward the car. I have replaced the battery in the transmitter, so it's not a weak battery.

Has anyone else seen this with their Hyundais or is this abnormal -and maybe need to be addressed?

....yeah it sucks cause my tib is like that too really bad range and if theres cars in the way... then youll be lucky if you get it to work
you might have to upgrade to a aftermarket alarm

They are designed for short range, you don't want to be able to be walking away from your car and have it open up by putting the keys in your pocket or something to that effect, it has short range so you never accidentally open your car and not know it.

I have an '04 elantra and my keyless entry has a range of about 50 feet, which I think is just fine. Maybe they improved it?
