2000 grand am gt problems

I have a 2000 grand am gt (59000m) and have had it for a year and have two problems so far:

1. I have a problem with the car wanting to run warmer than is should I’ve seen it in the dead summer go as high as 230 or 240 now that’s warm for a 190 degree thermostat and the collant is full. The fan also kicks on at about 230 Here is the twist it only does this when you are stopped or driving slow 20mph or less in stop and go traffic.

2. the next problem that I’ve run in to happened yesterday while driving about 20 mile from home a chime sounded as I looked down the service vehicle soon, abs, and trac off lights came on the car was running fine so I pulled over and turned the car off and started it back they went off. I then continued to drive home and they all three came back on at the same time. What could be wrong

Please help with any information that can help me fix these problems

1.The Electronic Control Module (ECM) regulates the voltage to the cooling fan relay. The relay operates the fan when the engine coolant temperature exceeds 106°C (223°F) The cooling fan will turn on automatically during extended idle conditions under 5 miles per hour.

2.You need to see what codes are stored in the bcm and abs modules for further diagnosis.

so does that mean that is a normal temp for my car to run how come only one fan runs when does the other kick on. What can I do to make it run cooler?

the other day I noticed that one of the day time running lights was brighter than the other also a driving light just went out could that cause the service vehicle soon light to come on. Also it about time for a break job pads and rotors could this be the cause of the abs and trac off light to come on.

thanks

Normal engine temp on those cars is around 220...as long as the fans are cycling and the car never overheats, I wouldn't worry about it too much...also, your gage on the dash may not be accurate.

The Service Vehicle soon light comes on when there is a problem with a safety item...ie: DRLs or headlights...definately check and replace the affected bulb or bulbs.
The ABS light is another story...you will need to have the codes checked to see what is going on there....they will not come on to tell you that it is time for a brake job...the ABS module has detected a fault with the system and has set a code and disabled the ABS system.

so where is a good place to take it to to get the codes read about how much does it cost.

thanks

You can go to Autozone to get your codes read for free. You could call some other parts stores, but I know I've heard Autozone does it.

There is still a code stored in the Brake control module...I don't believe that code readers will read BCM and ABS codes (someone correct me if I am wrong)

My AutoTap isn't capable of reading the Brake Control Module. I didn't see any readers that would while I was deciding which to buy.
