bit im a little apprehensive about posting in here b/c of my relative n/b status. But i recently comleted a swap B18C1 into my 94 coupe i've got a little work mostly bolt ons and a light car (2540lbs w/me ,full tank, spare and two seats). And i've been havin lots of fun beatin up on almost any import and alot of AMERICAN IRON , but with all yhe talk a/b these wrx's i was curious of the what the outcome would be.
Last night on the way home from work I was getting on 95 crossing traffic and passin to the HOV lane I got off the gas and got ready for a thirty minute ride when a wrx silver with a kit and fin rims and a hot chick inthe passenger seat came up on the left and i started to get excited b/c I'm not affraid to lose I just want to know. So i started with him, threw it in third and went by him got a/b 100 feet out let off . He was game he downshifted and gave chase as he went by I got back on it he pulled strong then my friend vtec came to the rescue I pulled to red line as i came back to his door ,shift light ,fourth gear and I'm pulling away.
We went back and fourth for over 20 miles until I had to get off, well he followed,I guess to show me I couldnt beat him out of the hole. His windows stayed up but he raced his engine and dropped it as the light changed we took off he got out a/b a car but by 45 we were door to door 60 I was ahead and it was time to stop same story next light but I launched at a little bit higher rpm and he didnot get as far out, man this thing is fun.

You beat an STI 0 to 60? Hmmm, they're supposed to be going 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds, plus the new ones are 300 horses, 4wd. It must have been a pretty fat chick in the passanger seat...

STis arent the only WRX around...
If you can beat "American Iron" then why are you worried about beating WRXs? I have no problem with them and from a roll... lets just say it isnt pretty for them :D

Oh also...
Ofcourse thats true for an STi, but, what youre forgetting is thats from a dead stop and with an aggressive launch. From a roll, stock, theyre worthless. They are putting less power to the wheels than my car. Gotta love AWD drivetrain loss...

Even if it was a WRX (non STI) we'll assume, they still run 227 hp and he is pushing 170. That must be one heavy WRX. Are you sure it wasn't a RS?
Nice kill anyways.

227bhp = 170 to the wheels :dunno:
Also the WRX arent really highway warriors :dunno:
And when he raced him from a dig, the guy probably bogged on the launch:dunno:

Ok, not every Wrx is fast, but by reading "all the talk about these wrx's" I assumed you were talking about the STI's since those are the ones that are pretty quick. My friend has an STI, and let's just say, when he drops a gear around 50mph, I feel like I'm in an airplane. But he wouldn't even have to do that to beat most Civics. I'd never even try to race my civic against his STI.
But I'd still rather have an EVO 8.

2003 All-Star Sport Sedan: Subaru Impreza WRX / BMW M5 (tie)
Stop the presses! Last year's Automobile of the Year, the scrappy Impreza WRX from Subaru, has captured the hearts and votes of exactly half of our staff, while the other half will not be swayed from the BMW M5, a perennial All-Star in the Automobile Magazine firmament. Forget about a recount; we're going with the tie vote. Can you really argue with our logic? At $24,720, the WRX is the hot-rod deal of the century, a real-world turbocharged terror that more than holds its own against the stratospheric $71,095 M5. We are crazy about it. Loving one does not preclude rapture over the other. BMW's soul-stirring M5 is more of an elite juggernaut at speed than the WRX. It is a 155-mph cruise missile dripping in luxury. We adore it. The only things diametrically opposed about the WRX and the M5 are the demographics of the people buying them. Otherwise, their souls are in exactly the same place. When you fire up the engine and step on the throttle of either, the message is exactly the same: Turn off the radio, shut down the cell phone, and pay attention. You're about to go for the ride of a lifetime. Whichever you choose, you'll own the best sport sedan your money can buy.

And as I have said I used to pull with a d15 and it was fun and WRX's back then were not sti and they seemd quick, PERECEPTIONS CHANGE with a new motor and twice the hp. (did four wheel disks at that time gotta stop too)
I have to say this thing is soo much fun!!!!
Broke the shifter off racing a matrix Rxs this morning on way to moms for bfast .. Shorter short throw new knob at AZ and its good.

ghost ill surely tell you, you already lost
and why would you want an evo 8 instead of the STI? they are slower, uglier IMO ide rather have a srt4 instead of an evo

and I got to question anyone who would take a dodge srt4 over an evo??????????wtf?? anyone in their right mind would the evo isnt that great, you could take that extra 10g's you save put what 5 into it and spank evo's all day long and spend the extra 5 on whatever else if not the car itself

Oh yeah? Is that why it was named car of the year by one of the biggest magazines for 2004? Evo 8 had far better handling, and is only slower by a fraction of a second. Plus, I think it looks a lot better than an STI. And the fact is, when Sports Compact Car tested an EVO, Porsche Carrera 4S and and an M3, the EVO's lap time was only one second slower than the Carrera, a high performance sports car, and way more expensive. Also, the interior in an EVO is better than an STI.

And by the way, an Evo is less expensive than an STI, so you could take the money you save with the evo, and put it into performance parts, and "spank" the sti. Oh and btw, next year, the Evo III RS is coming out, with no AC, sound system, it's stripped, and 300 hp for $27,000. Talk about spanking butt.

my point exactll well put damir831
srt4 come on fast yes, but compare it w an evo or sti, as far as handling cant compete on or off road
and even I am not as bold as to say a 94 coupe is in that league even hybrid

but u see guys, thats the point 91hb is making...its opinion.
u guys may think of the lancer as a better looking car, and u'd purchase it, but hb would rather save the 7-9k extra and purchase the neon. its not a big deal, jus personal opinion guys.

the evo is a 27,000 ricer car, fraction of a second my ass thats done for marketing i can gaurantee, on tv they tested both evo 8 and sti and evo ran mid to low 13sec slips and the sti pulled high 12 sec runs....and handling with all the money you save from the bs that the evo has you could put it all into the srt4 and still have a way better car
civicHBsi91
12-15-2003, 10:43 PM
yes personally i hate the evo, i would rather have the sti over all three but i would take the srt over the lancer, i like the older lancers that were not offered here i dislike this one very much
damir831
12-18-2003, 01:28 AM
OK, Yes, I like the older lancers too, and this debate about which one of these 2 is better will go on as long as these cars are in production, it's only a matter of oppinions.
Just a thought though, I've never seen anyone call the EVO VIII "ricey" before. I just got a another magazine, "Sport Compact Car" to be exact, the february 2004 issue. This is the second magazine that has voted the Evo VIII "2004 Car of the Year" Keep in mind, these guys constantly test drive and review imports, not just Japanese, but Porsches and Ferraris, so they would know how to separate the good from the bad. In this issue, they also have a "Project EVO vs. Project STI" section, where they tune both of them up.
Here's a quote from the car of the year column
"After 12 months of testing, which included a fierce head to head shootout with its arch-nemesis, the 300 hp Subaru WRX STi - which it won - and another vs best high dollar performance cars from Germany, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, the Audi S4 and the BMW M3 - which it won - we conclude that the Evo is not exactly perfect."
...they say it needs a bigger gas tank.
"And on the test track we've seen performance numbers previously unheard of at the EVO's sticker price. This car accelerates from 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds, runs the quarter mile in 13.4 at 102.5 mph, stops from 60 to 0 in only 106 feet, circles our 200 foot skidpad in an incrediple .95g and hurdles through our 700 foot slalom at 73.1 (STi @ 70). This kind of performance CEO's once had to pay more than $100,000 for, and only found by shopping brands like Porsche and Ferrari...A Mitsubishi we can drive to work every day while carpooling with 3 co workers"
So yes, they don't do just one TV show and decide which one is better, they tested them for 12 months. But of course, everyone will have their own opinion, so there's not point in arguing which one is better.
