BMW are apprently building one for the next generation M5 and 7 series cars, but its only thier recent use in F1 that has made them popular and hence worth manufactoring.

All F1 teams are not making their own engines. Currently (2003 season) Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes-Ilmor, Cosworth (as Ford-Cosworth for Jordan and as Cosworth Racing for Jaguar and Minardi), Renault, Petronas, Toyota and Honda are making V10 engines for F1.
Then there are a number of engine manufacturers that are currently not active (like Yamaha/Judd and Peugeot/Asiatech) within F1. It's often possible to buy older F1 engines or designs which can after some modifications be used for street or racing in other classes.
