Hehe...that quote fits nicely. :evillol: Good movie too.
Anyway, here's my latest project: 350Z streetDRAGON. I promised the best 350Z you've ever seen...I don't know if I delivered, but it's the best 350Z I've seen...maybe it's because I've built it. I tell you one thing, it looks great on my shelf.
All of you who lectured me on my ego and tried to make fun of me - thx, I've put in extra effort to prove you wrong.
As you all know, this was my last model (and second, lol). I hope I can get back to this hobby soon. Good luck to you all, keen on building...

It cetainly not bad, but a few things i've spotted you need to work on :
Sanding out the mould lines (which are visable on the rear bumper)
Adding Panel Lines, it doesn't look right without them.
Why one half the body kit, the sides and rear are missing.
The rear wing is far to huge, but that only by opinion.
All in all better than my 2nd kit, so i'll give it 6.5/10

Yeah yeah, I know about those things, but I'm not toughing the model again, the decals will rub off...it's not the best build but it looks awesome, if you ignore small imperfections. As I said, it looks great on the shelf.

It's not BAD, it's just not as good as you claimed it to be.
I agree with Hiroboy, and might I add the exhaust pipes, which look pretty stupid with no inside blackening, and the wheels, which seem to protrude a bit out of the arches.
A bit too much of visibl orange peel and the aestetical questionable red inside the headlights and the IMO too small rims.
Hope you take it as constructive criticism, it looks very good to be your second model, but not convincing as the best Z-model around, sorry.

Yeah, I got orange peel...couldn't get rid of it with my 8000 grit. And the tail pipes, I just painted the insides black...forgot before.

Not the best 350 I've ever seeen, but DEFINATELY not the worst. It's not really my style, but I can appreciate the hard work you put into it. Good Job.

Not bad. Not exactly the best I've seen, definitely no the worse. That polishing kit would've taken care of that uneven paint. Oh well......

It would Look 100 times better if you had scribed out the panel lines on
the hood then painted in all the panel lines, put on a different wing then
that huge ugly one, lowered it a bit, and painted the light housing black,
other than that, looks nice. I can't figure out the reason of a poll either,
its not like we can't post our opinions on how good it is in this thread.

Thx man.
Just wanna say this: Of course the model would turn out better if someone with more experience, tools, and time built it - it wouldn't look like an orange, wouldn't have mold marks, etc. My idea, my decal designs, my color chices - that's what I am proud of. I didn't think I would pull it off, it seemed like a huge project for a second model, but I am surprised how good it turned out.

Well, to be honest, I am not crazy about the McDonnalds color scheme. Likewise I am not a big fan of the rims or the wing. I am, however impressed that this is your second model, and for that you get a 6.
If it was not for your lack of interpersonal skills or respect I may have been sad to see a promising young modeler leave the hobby.
Take care and good luck!

I don't know about you. It isn't the best, but it isn't bad. I just think you should have taken a little more time on it, but like you said, you don't have the time. Thats cool. It's just the little things like the mold lines, and the headlights not sitting up all the way. Just things like that, in my mind, make a huge difference.

Not a fan of the oversized spoiler
Questionable color scheme
basically not my type of car
I think if you took as much care into the body as you did the interior it would make a world of differnce, Because from what i can see, the interior is one of a kind.
personally, i think you bit off a little more than you could chew. With the SAS kit and all.
Verdict: Not the best 350Z ever, But It seems like your quite happy with it and in the end thats all that matters.

Awesome model for just the second one. as you stated it was built how you wanted it not how others would have. I follow the same thinking. So what are you going to do now? Build a web site to put your models etc on? It sounds like you are taking a break from modelling itself!

Well, here's my verdict:
Second Kit Built: 9/10
Paint 6/10
Decals & desgin: 10/10
Use of Body kit: 4/10, should've made the rest fit, but that's my :2cents:
Wing: It could look better with the rest of the body kit, so...5.8/10
Interior: 12/10, very nicely done
Ride height & rims: 8/10
*NOTE: red flames around red headlamps get a 10/10, cause that's so damn cool
Finally:
Overall appearance(interior and exterior combined): 8.5/10.
Honestly it looks amazing, but it could've used some work, I've taken into consideration that you ran short on time, and that you ran short on paint and supplies, that's why you get 8/10. By far spectacular work, I could show some pics of my second model(unpained, molded in black 55chevy street machine, did some work on it over 2 years ago) BTW, the black mirros add to the coolness of the car, maybe if you'd clear-coated over the decals, they'd be less fragile. Seeing as how nice this came out, for a second car, it's a shame that you're leaving the hobby, who knows, if you build a stock 350z, without all the glam, but put a lil detail and pour some heart into it(without going nuts) it could be very nice stock.

Very nice, it's not the best 350Z but It's still a great achievement. Very American styled, if you know what I mean. Try building one stock first next time, so you can get a feel for it. :grinno: Come back soon!

I'm very much in the middle on this one. I gave you a 5. Not because its bad, but because its not good, either. You mentioned somewhere, in this thread or the other, that you didn't bother with the details. To me, and to most I would assume, the details are the important part. Personally, I would have been much more impressed with a cleanly built totally stock 350Z, but I know that's not what you're after. Things like the mold lines in the rear bumper, the (sorry) awful puttywork along the hood and front bumper (no separation lines, is the hood welded shut like in that old Toyota advert?), the orange peel paint, the ill fitting headlamps and the visible brush strokes on the interior just ruin a model for me.
I know that can be mostly chalked up to experience. But you've also talked a lot about putting in extra effort to make this the best model ever. It really disappoints me that so much advice and help was offered during the construction, and the response was without fail "this is my last model." That sounds like an excuse to me, and I didn't see any extra effort go into this model beyond the graphics, body kit, spoiler and fancy paint color. It seems like you were so caught up in the wow that you didn't worry about the mundane things that make a good kit great. I know that most of that work is hard, and doesn't impress, and isn't flashy or particularly awesome, but the lack really kills a model and any flashy and particularly awesome bits it does have. I just hope you have a little more attention to detail in your design work than you do your model.
And as far as the design, I usually don't say anything regarding it because it's a personal thing, but you've flaunted it so much it warrants conversation. Red and yellow don't mix. At all. You'd think a design student would know that? The wheels look toy like, in size and shine. They probably would have looked much better, both stylistically and technically if you killed ths shine in the center and left the lip bright chrome. The graphics are way over the top, and don't really work together. The red flames clash with the gold dragon on the roof, and the black sponsor decals (which are ill placed, too far from the bottom edge, extend past the top of the wheel arch, and straddle the panel line) just don't fit in at all, nor do the white decals on the windows. You'd think you'd at least coordinate the two, and if the black doesn't show up on the window, perhaps a body color banner painted on the windows could help set them off. The spoiler, which isn't my style because it's so big, is also way out of scale and chunky. It looks like it came off a 1:18. The spoiler from the AMT Supra should never be used on anything ever except as a joke. You spent so much money on the car, you think you could have sprung for a SAS GT wing, I mean, you ordered from them already. My roommate said the car looks like a girl, and after looking at it again, I agree. The flames coming off the headlamps look like eyelashes, and really none of the flames are in the same style. And I'd've expected decals to not look like they were hand painted right on the body. It boils down to the fact that there is absolutely no cohesion between any of the modifications done to this car. Probably any one of them, alone, would look just fine. But together, the car is a miss-match in every aspect.
Damn, I meant this to be civil but I guess it ended otherwise. Really, if it had been anyone else's car, I wouldn't have said anything. But your sheer arrogance throughout the build, and even though everyone tried to help you get on the right track.... You just ignored any help. That is really frustrating. Just because you somehow are convinced you and your cars are better than any here.
If you feel you've been wronged by this post, I'm sorry. If you are mad, sorry. Feel free to search for any projects I have built (you can click on my name and it will take you to a profile where you can click on "find all threads started by this user") and pick them apart if you feel like it, I'd be interested to hear your opinions.
I must admit, though, your threads have certainly become the most entertaining.

It's a killer second model and if you are forced out of the hobby by being scared of your negative parents, then it's a great model to go out on!
Really, try to explain to your parents that even though it costs you alot of money you thoroughly enjoy it, if they see how much it makes you happy then they shouldn't stay so negative about you doing it.
Good luck man and again, it's a great model to go out on, especially for your second.

considering the fact that you talked yourself up to ridiculous levels, ignored advice and from day one said this is the best 350Z ever built, you really let yourself down. I gotta agree with the decals with willimo. Gold on a yellow car? I dunno, but I think the whole bodykit would have looked killer on a white car or something like that. The paint also looks much better in other pics (did you use some red light or something in previous pics?) than it does in here. Also, considering that you have orange peel (and i know how annoying it can be), and did say this was gonna be the best 350Z, you really slacked off. A different base colour and reflection would have made this the best 350Z I reckon. Either way, for a second model its killer and i can only hope mine will look as good as yours.
It's a shame that you are already leaving the hobby, because you have talent. If you could now only open your heart to other people's opinions and advice, then maybe this would be more rewarding for you.
Okay im out before I make an ass of myself :P

The end result isn't what I expected, after you were saying it was going to be the best 350z I have ever seen.
I must say, I would of prefered the end result if you hadn't of built it up so much saying that it was going to be the best 350z we have ever seen.
Ohh, and do you actually have a Nitrous oxide kit on it? or is the sticker just for show?

I meant not to make fun of you at all however your ego was kind of running the show. I like what you've donw with the model overall, especially it being only your second model. It's a shame that you're leaving the hobby due to the talent and heaps of potential you show:smile:. Hopefully your parents will reconsider their thoughts on your building and change their minds. Take care and drop in whenever you get the chance. Peace :sunglasse.

with all due respect FORGET YOUR PARENTS! If you let them control you on this little thing? what next are you going to live with them till your 45? They might aswell continue to change your diapers! If them not liking it stops you from doning something that isnt wrond then you have serious problems!! :uhoh:

To tell you the truth If I saw that 350Z in real life Id puke. Not only does the A1 racing wing put digrace to the beautiful car that the 350z is, the decals and the paint scheme make the car look like a fruit of some sort.
However, this being your second model, I respect your efforts and I can definetley say this model is crazyyy nice for your 2nd. Maybe you shoudl consider continue model building when u have the chance, you might have something goign here. I can only imagine what your 20th model would look like.
Cheers

im am very upset that all these nice modelers gave you there advice to help you produce a decent model. if you are in collage dosent that mean your 18+ that means your an adult, you can make up your own mind about what you want to do with your spare time, i am not saying to ingnor your parents but please dont let them rule your life. if building models is something you really want to do than do it and don't take shit from your parents or anyone for that matter, i mean what whould you do if you met a woman and you really liked her and your mom and dad said that they did not like you spending your spare time or money on her, what whould you do kick her ass to the side of the road so you can run back to mommy and kiss her toes. you know what you need to get a life, for gods sake i'm 17 and live with my mom and she whould never think of holding be back from what i want to do.

I'm going to go ahead and apologize for being an ass before. I can get like that sometimes. Even though I don't personally care for it (it's mostly taste, mind you) I think if you learn from others and develop the skills you already have (I mean seriously, that is a really good second effort) and build very good models. Forget your parents, mine never approved of my models. Do what you like, and don't lose heart because of a few vocal naysayers like myself. If you let your build speak for itself, its voice of quality will be much louder. Just a thought.

Woah...came out better than i thought it would after u messed up the paint job. Everything is tight but IMO the red and yellow doesnt match quite well. But that's only my opinion. Plus, get rid of the damned APC decal. As long as u like ur work, its a 10/10.

You said your decals rub off with too much handling...you might want to rub off the DOHC VTEC decal, and the NOS (YO!) decal.... either that, or install a V-tec engine and Nitrous.... :p

Huh? Though this may be true in some cases it also applies to the look of the exterior (no matter how fast you are). My example....Craig Liberman's R34 Skyline. It's super fast but it's a hot steaming pile of RICE....
DOHC VTEC on a 350Z is rice no matter what. APC...phew.....Uncle Ben's....not even good enough rice to be Niko Niko.

Well, I have to say, you did a fine job for your second model, but its deffinatly not my type of car, but you didnt build it for me, or anyone else on this board for that matter, its for you, and nobody else, so as long as you like what you built, thumbs up to you.
Seems like you have made a very "controversial" (i cant even spell it) model, :naughty: I dont no if you were trying to or not, but dayyymmm you can really stir up the pot!
Nice model, and I hope you are happy with the finished product. :sunglasse

Well I usually post to just about anything I have an opinion on. But I did not post in the build up of this model and I have waited until now to post in the finished thread. So here is what I have to say:
If you like it, I'm glad! You've done what everyone is suppose to, build for themselves! For a second model that is incredibly impressive as well! Considering you ran out of paint as well.
You did an awesome job on the interior that came out very well!
Yes your ego was overboard, and you shouldn't have "challenged" Hiro's 350 or claimed that this will be the best 350z ever. There are flaws that everyone has pointed out, mold lines, lack of panel lines, orange peel, etc. so I won't drill on those.
You might want to remove the dohc vtec sticker just for the fact that it doesn't go, the rest could feasibly go with the car.
As for your parents: I'd just explain to them that you are extremely happy building models, and its your hobby compare it to something they do for a hobby. It also doesn't have to be expensive I've spent $15 on a kit and paint and been more than pleased with the result.
Anway I think I've droned on tooo long. So BUILD FOR YOURSELF! I hope to see more models from you soon because you definitely got skills.

You bunch of onpionated idiots, this guy has posted a pic of a car he has built to share with you guys.
OK so he got a bit egotistical about being the best 350, but in his eyes it is, and I say good on him. But there is no reason to cut this dude down on his skills.
In my eyes, model making is an art. It's not about opions or preferences, it's about creation.
So pull your heads in.

Not trying to sound like an ass, but I think you mean opinionated.
Although I agree with you, but I also think model making is about realism, and replacing the Nissan V6, 287 hp VQ35DE with a V-tec engine would be pretty darn stupid. (No offence to Honda fans).
I guess I am sorry if I do have sounded like an ass in any of my previous posts in this thread, but some people just get on my nerves.

Although I agree with you, but I also think model making is about realism...
i think it really depends on one's taste... i mean, people build cars that come from cartoons... not too realistc... but you know, you do have a point, and you show something that i think others cant...
some people like to see realistic models, but others don't... for example, p9o1r1sche's sectioned 350z... not quite realistic, at least, it'd be a one of a kind thing in real life... but no one bashes his for being unrealistic...
yes, he did hype the model up a lil bit too much, but who can blame him? it's the best in his eyes and i respect the fact that he has SOME self esteem...
i also agree, though, the vtec decal doesnt quite fit, but what's wrong with that? maybe he doesnt know too much about cars or "rice" (don't hurt me :)... i think some people believe that if you build models, you know a lot about cars and engines... i don't know much in the way of engines, and i'm sure i'll make a mistake like that on one of my models...
sorry, if i've blabbered on too much and if i sound like a butt-head, i'm not taking sides either... but don't FLAME someone because of small things like a decal

The only way to "put him in his place" is for you to build one yourselves; actions speak louder than words. Please, show some respect for a fellow modeller and move on to something else.

Considering you are a novice to car modeling (which you are, dont take offense), I'd say its turned out pretty good. At times when following your progress and the way you rushed things along, I was expecting it to be alot worse. You certainly bit off more than you can chew but acheived pretty much what you set out to do. The livery is certainly not to my taste but the decals look nicely done and well designed making it a unique model for which you should be praised.
This shouldn't be your last model, you should build on those skills and continue. There's just no point modeling for the sake of doing a couple of models, its a long process.

I usually try to stay out of these things as my opinion can offend sometimes. In this instance, I'm glad I did until now.
During the build-up the constant BS about this being the best 350Z ever and the occasionally shoddy manner in which some tasks were undertaken helped to forge my mind into expecting a complete turd of a model upon completion.
However, although far from perfect, this is a nice model ...one which you can justifiably be proud of. Despite everything, you had the courage to present it here, good or bad, and let the opinions flow forth. And some have been painfully honest, although most have been more restrained than i expected.
Personally I don't favor the colour scheme ...it's a bit Ronald McDonald for my liking and as others have said the wing is a little large but this model is yours..not mine...so who cares. The build faults have been mentioned plenty alreadt so no need for me to go over that again.
All this model lacked was time...if more time was spent the overall quality would have been better... I certainly don't doubt you have the skill ( I know you don't  ) For a second model this is very good, especially as it was so very ambitious from the start. I think you can be proud that you did see it through to completion, even though you were under some pressure (admittedly of your own making) and have something worthy to display on your shelf.
Now what I'd like to see is another model from you, only this time do it right from start to finish. Take the time and care to get the details just right and the paint finish perfect. Don't hype it up first. Just do it then suprise everyone :iceslolan

Thanks to everyone for your comments. The positive ones are pleasant, the others...don't matter - the model is complete, I love it and all my friends like it. About that DOHC VTEC decal - I replaced it with a different one...
As for car modeling in general, I will leave it for now as one of the things I have to sacrifice to go to the university. I have to save every dollar to pay for books and 24k tuition. I would like to pick it up soon though...

That's cool that you changed the decal. I feel much better knowing it's not rice anyway. BTW, you have NOS stickers, but that doesn't mean the car has to have nitrous by NOS. NOS makes several things, such as EFI kits.
