Coilovers

Who makes descent coilovers? I notice that there are a number of them out there on the market. I am not loking to spend a small fortune, but want descent quality (does any company out there still do that?). I was also looking into just buying lowering springs, but not sure about camber. What is the lowest you can take a stock civic with stock wheels and not having to worry about camber? I am driving the "basic of the basic" civic. I believe it is the 91 Civic STD with the D15 and the manual 4 speed. Basic platform........soon to be street rocket.

Suspension is not cheap, at least for good parts. I would look into H&R's or Tein's, maybe even Ground Controls(sleeves) with Koni yellow shocks. Any lowering will affect camber since there is NO factory adjustment. IMO any thing more than 2" will require a camber kit. Toe also changes during lowering, but that can be adjusted on an alignment rack.

Each time ride height is adjusted on the coilovers, you WILL need an alignment. Well you don't have to but your car will never handle properly.

Some of the best/cheap springs are H&R, Tirerack.com sells them for about $150.00. If you choose coilover sleeves or lowering springs, you will need to upgrade the shocks.

Yeah, I totally agree with jackasssi, make sure you get new shocks before you lower your car, or else you'll blow out your stock struts really fast, because they don't have as much travel anymore, and they will bottom out a lot more. And it will just make it a lot more work in the long run.

Do it right the first time.

its not just the bottoming out.. its the lack of control... stockers can dampen the soft stock springs real easy... but all lowering springs are stiffer... so the factory shocks have to work harder to control them and there for wear out fast... even with brand new stock shocks... the ride wont be nice
