I have a 1988 Ford F150 4x4 5.0 EFI 4 Speed OD...When i first start it it idles real high alot longer than it should and between shifts it doesnt return to idle it stays at around 2200 RPM. if i keep the clutch engaged long enough like say 7-10 seconds it will return to idle but its wearing on my clutch and would take forever to get anywhere..What im wondering is what is causing this prob and is it expensive to fix? :banghead:

try cleaning the Idle air control valve (if it has one).

Possible throttle position sensor, clean or replace.

I wish I knew the answer on this one, I got a 1990 that does the same thing. All I do is "goose" it and it runs normal right fron the get go. My 86 did it but thats cause I was dicking around with the EGR valve. Replaced it and all was fine, but it did nothing for the 90. Best of luck my fellow Ford brother

Thank you, Thank you I had the same problem it's been driving me nuts it started 4 days ago and make the truck run really bad and just before that it ran perfect. I replaced the idle air control motor and rest the computer and drove around about 20 minutes and now it's perfect this is an awesome site thanks again. :grinno:
