I need to get some ribbon for belts and I don't know what width to buy.
I was thinking it was about 1/8" but I really don't remember.
:p

I happen to have my Detail MAster PE seatbelt kit with me and am bringing it tonight. You can take a look at it to get an idea of you want.

1:1 seatbelts are pretty much 2 inch or 3 inch ones. So, depending on which one you want to have, divide the corresponding width by 24.

By my calculations an eighth inch or slightly bigger

2 divided by 24 = 1/12
3 divided by 24 = 1/8

2 divided by 24 = 1/16? 1/16" is more like 1 1/2" in scale. Besides, 24 divided by 2 = 12 ;o)

2 inch belts don't correspond to any readily available ribbon size.

For a quick way to figure these things, there is a spreadsheet on my site showing the scale equivalent of a given measurement - it might help.

My method, which may be confusing to some since it mixes imperial and SI units is that roughly one 1/24th scale inch equals 1mm. Most belts are 2 inches wide, so use 2mm wide ribbon or tape. Modern F1 and occasionaly some other cars use 3 inch belts so use 3mm ribbon. Simple.

The other deciding factor is the width of your buckle hardware. Pick something to fit that.

Umm, actually, the way I did it, I brought my GTR R34 vspec II seat with me to wal-mart, and found some ribbon(green) wide enough to fit in perfectly, like 1/8''

Did I say 1/16? Brain fade! Shame on me. I'll edit the post.

1/8 is as small as I found...
But they were out of the shade I wanted!
Green at Walmart (bad words), I was hoping not to go back there till after the season was over too!

So, how do you make shoulder pads for harnesses?

:p

I make them by a cutting wider piece of tape (or ribbon) and winding it around the harness a few times. Fasten it with some superglue and done.

Results look like this:

Bill , Missed you at the meeting Friday. I was at Hobby Lobby before I went and found two types , some nice black in something around 2.5 mm with a great weave( this one fits my Detail Master kit pretty closely ) , and some red in 2.0 mm. They cost a bout a buck for 3 yds. so I have plenty if you want some. BTW they had some blue also but I did not like the color

Phil, what kind of tape did you use?
