Transmission Problem

I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy. I was pulling away from a stop sign in a neighborhood, then the transmission made a clunking noise and shifted down in to 1st. Now the transmission will not shift into reverse, will not shift into 2nd, and will not shift into overdrive. WTF? Has anyone ever had/ heard of a problem like this before? It has almost 100,000 miles and was acting fine up to this point. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had that problem 6 months ago at 107,000 miles. I had to get a new transmission, was able to find a refurbished to get me by, but I'm still not satisfied. I don't know the exact terminalogy, but the transmission is splint into two parts, sound like what happened to me, where one part controls the shifting of reverse, 5th, and overdrive. Sorry to hear about your luck, it really pissed me off too.
