AHHH, the joys of my 95-Neon. I have had the car for a while now, and have had the transmission go at 32,000Km.....had many many other parts go. Now I even have my mechanic scratching his head......Problem is that last week on the way home....my battery light came on. Could not be the Alternator since I just fixed that.... :dunno: Anyhow the battery light comes on. So I park the car. Go to start it the next day and it will not turn over. Anyone have any ideas....beyond...."Sell the car"

Hey Suzy,

I feel the same way about my '96 Neon. It's been nothing but a hassle. My battery light came on, too. It's the battery itself. Replace it and you should be fine. Usually when a battery light comes on it's an indication that the car is running off the battery. Seems the Neon is a bit different. Anyway, I changed my battery and, thusfar, everything has been fine. Well, as fine as a Neon can be.

Good Luck,

Dan

Don't know if you're still looking for an answer or not, but my 2000 has the same problem. As it turns out, My serpentine belt and alternator belt kept flying off (unbeknownst to me)! Every time that happened, my battery light would come one. This last time, I replaced the battery at $75.00 and ordered an alternator ($208) before finding out my belts (that I had just had replaced in October along with my power steering pump) had flown off again!!

I'm ready to sell mine, but probably wouldn't get 15c for it.

Good luck, hope I was helpful!

This problem could also be caused by corroded battery cables. I had a similar incident with my 97 sohc neon. The battery light would come on and a couple of times the instrument cluster flickered on and off. I removed the cables from the terminals and cleaned them with a water/baking soda mixture (a cleaner probably would have been better) and I haven't had the problem since. Hope this helps.
