ANOTHER turbo question...

alright i know everyone is sick of newbies asking these questions... but to bad! thats what your there for!! (those that know what your talking about anyway)
ok, peaceing togeather a kit for my 98 EX but, its under these restrictions- 1. it cant blow up (duh) 2. it has to remain on stock internals 3. after im done i want about 200 WHP heres my reasoning-- i use this car to commute to colleage so i need the car to be able to stay togeather for a while ...at least untill i can finish building a second motor- the motors are REALLY cheep for my car, so my thought is that i can put the turbo on the stock motor, buy a second motor and hopfully have it prepped to go into my car about by the time the motor that is in there is getting tired. oh, motor has 95k miles on it... but i put almost 3k miles a month on my car... im thinking around 160-200k miles tell new motor. anyway, ive done my homework and here is what ive got so far. (though im still missing some stuff about tuning)

garret T3 is what everyone reccomends-- $300 however, anyone know if there is a turbo that only puts out about 10psi ...thats all i ever see myself wanting to boost anytime soon... and the smaller turbos are cheep anyway. i spend a lot of time in stop and go traffic (new orleans). if it would spool almost instantly that would be much better suited for me.

ok, downpipe + manifold... $250
intercooler kit ?? $300? $400? something like that didn't really look into that much...
tail wastgate $200
BOV- $100
255 fuel pump $200
440 injectors $200
now, here is were i'm really confused. ive read almost this hole site, and everywere says no damn FMU, ok, i understand that part... BUT how in the hell am i going to make the injectors inject more without a FMU or a AFC?! everywere says to tune it... but um, what am i tuning?? my assumption is that they mean changing the program on the ECU to make it delever more fuel, but that sounds hard lol. and FMUs are like $80?

ok, now MSD makes a system that retards the timing per pound of boost, i understand how the timeing works with detonation and overheating (i did my homework :iceslolan) but is that nec? or could i just set it ## back the whole time and it be ok?

and i think lastly a knock detector and a check valve for the MAP.

oh, other stuff i'ma put on while im at it... TEIN springs/shocks, Apex-I N1 dual tip exhaust, boost gauge, A/F guage, exhaust temp gauge, new performance radiator, oil cooler kit, oil temp guage, ...and thats about all.

anyway, what i really need help on is the fuel delevery and timing. oh, i know a little about mechanics work, so you should be able to really explane stuff to me (i rebuilt my 90 civic motor and did the DX-SI conversion without the wiring harness, and without a damn internet site to help me-- found one afterwords... dunno if that means anything... but i was proud of myself!!)

for anyone who just happens to be wandering... YES its a 5-spd... NO i dont have massive rims, NO i dont think my STOCK EX is fast.

wait, this is really off topic- but its funny as all hell. last night i was in covington and this kid in a 1990 hatch with a body kit and mellon shooter bolt on muff (he had it were it didn't make the bend, just came out strate) he was on my side at a red lite and kept trying to make me race him (you know, reving up and stuff) well, light turned green and he took off really hard, but he was SLOW! so i thought, wtf, maybe i can beat him, next light i said i would race him, and we take off, well turns out that car wasn't as slow as i thought... he was right along side of me... then got a little in frunt of me... i was at his rear bumper when you hear PING (metal hitting metal sound) POW SSSITTT WOOSH and smoke FLY out from under his car . well, needless to say he didn't beat me... hahahaha but i turned around to help him out... you know what he says? HAHA I BEAT YOU AND YOUR P$%#Y EX! :sly: :screwy: then asked me for a rid... ha. he got left. i just wish i had a damn camera... b/c nobody will beleave that story lol.

ok, i just need help with turbo stuff, thought that would be a funny story lol. (its my favorite one!!) oh, sorry for spelling... i just can not spell.

That is friggin hilarious but you should have agreed to give him a ride. Than knock his ass out and feed to an alligator... Thats what I would have done.

why don't you look into the Greddy kit for D-series motors. They're cheap and it'll get you that 200 whp without a problem

Or you can get a Turbonetics kit that has everything including the FMIC, injectors, FMU, Ball Bearing Turbo etc...for $3,000.00 from us.

Buy the greddy kit, get a good fuel management system like hondata or even step up to an EMS that you can use later when you want to make more power, an FMU is a band-aid way to add fuel.

well, later on i would like to change motor to B20... soi would like to use parts that are mostly compatable. wouldn't the FMU be usable for both motors? and the ignition system i think would be as well. so only thing that i will have to change is the manafold correct? and then go with an EMS/AFC or ECU change when i switch motors... right? or am i way off? oh, im saying i would like to hold on the B20 and set up the D motor b/c i would like to prolong that motors life for a LONG time, then switch. or do you think i should just worry about the D series sence it wouldn't cost that much more if i buy an ECU and later change it (by later i mean another 100k miles.)
