stalling problem

I got a 5spd 97 eclipse spyder GST about a month or so ago. Well to make a long story short the trannie and clutch blew up about 1 week after i got the damn thing and it's still in the shop getting fixed. Anyway when the car was running, a lot of the times when i would push the clutch in to downshift, the rpm's would drop off to 0 and the car would stall...Kind of scary when making a quick left turn at an intersection, heh. It didn't happen all the time, just every now and then. What could be causing the problem? And do you think i'll still have this problem when i get my car back? (the new trannie and clutch came in but my mechanic found a problem with the crankshaft so he had to order a short block which is why it's taking forever to get my car back  he said whoever had the car before me basically beat the shit out of it) Thanks for any help.

my guess, from him having to order a new block is that you had Crank Walk...
