an engine swap is your first order of business, b18 with those funds. save up some more and then get back to us.

Forget the b18, go with the b20. More torque to get you off quicker. You can always slap on a b16 head to make it a b20 V-TEC. With the b20, you're gonna need a lot of ls parts. When you install it with the ls intake manifold and header, that should give your motor about 130 hp to the wheels...that's like 150 hp to the crank. With torque like an sr20, the b20 will be your best bet. It's also cheaper than the b18c.

My advice is to make it faster with a JDM engine swap, since this was posted in the JDM forum..

Putting an H22a1 in a CRX is actually a good idea, if you can spot weild good. I Know a kid with an H22 CRX, and you couldnt hear a car that sounds better. but traction is always a problem. also might need a stiffer suspension in the front. with that 4K (if you really have it or havent spent it by now)
look for and buy an 89' Civic 4WD, next rip out all the suspesion gut, (azles, drive shaft ect.) do the same for the CRX, because the Civic and CRX was the same back then (EG chassis) the Real 4WD system will fit like clockwork on a CRX, NO LIE. An H22a1 powered 4WD CRX would be the perfect car for racing stop to go. and wouldnt do bad anywhere else either. It would be hard but if you could order a Euro-R H22a1. 220bhp@7400rpm. if not that than just simpley order a B16ZC, and put a turbo on it. as for me I go for Naturallyasperated motors.

first off thats about the stupidest shit ive ever read. first of all there is no such thing as b16zc, secondly, if you knew anything, the 4wd system out of the old civic wouldnt even bolt up to a b16, thridly, those parts are so weak to begin with, even if it were possible to get them to work together, the whole setup would fall apart under the abuse. plus try finding a driveshaft that works with the crx without any mods. do some reading before you post some nonsense like that again.

b16 or b18 or b20.... h22 is too heavy for a crx and really screws up the handling (unless you plan on going straight) b20 is borderline and i would reccomend the b18 from an integra by then your 4k should be gone with installation motor mounts and all.
for b18 aim for a LS b18b and put a vtec head then it should be more powerful than a gsr engine the b18c1 because the ls shortblock is larger than the gsr shortblock.... anyways good luck

What kind of Vtec?

You can take the vtec head from any b-series engine because they are all b-series and they all fit...
Parts for the complete swap of a b18b would range from 1000-2000 including mounts ecu wire harness shift linkage ect..
The head would probably be no more than 500
Parts for a GSR motor the b18c1 would probably range from 2000-3000 with all the needed materials for the swap
basically doing the b18b w/ vtec otherwise know as the ls/vtec is a little more powerful but more of a headache
the gsr b18c1 motor that already has a vtec head
a little less powerful but less of a headache
you can always just do a b16a swap 160hp 111lbs costed me 1300 for all the swap materials and did the swap with the help of some friends
160hp is pretty good for a 2000lb car, it's what i have and it's pretty much only fun for driving around the city and gets boring on the freeways
