Help! Beetle will not idle

I have a 1974 beetle that will not idle
I did a tune up and rebuilt the carb with no change
It will run very well when the choke is on but as soon as the choke opens it will stall.
It has lots of power when you drive it but it will not idle
any help appreciated as I am pulling out my hair :banghead:

more likely to be an air leak on the inlet manifolds.check the rubber seals below carb and gaskets where it meets head.
