Target: 200+ hp (at wheels)

Ok... Here we go...
I'd say that my car is making close 100 hp at the wheels.
What's the quickest/cheapest way to propel my car to the tune of 200+ hp (at wheels) without nitrous?

look at a vortech supercharger kit, i dunno the exact power at the wheels for the ex is but turbo magazine dynoed a bone stock new si with one and it put 240 something hp to the wheels, they dynoed a new si with intake, header, exhaust, and vortech kit and got 272 hp at the wheels. impressive to say the least, im trying to find a vortech kit for my subaru.

LS swap with a junkyard turbo setup

You wanna double your WHP? well, it's not gonna be cheap any way you do it. I would go with some type of forced induction. A vortech supercharger kit would cost around 2000-2500. I would twin turbo it, (yeah, two turbos for a 4 cyl), New ECU, exhaust, pulley kit, blah blah blah. basically, it won't be quick and it won't be cheap

ldelaysionl I'm still waiting for Vortech to release any info for the D16 supercharger... What gives?

What's wrong with a B20? Will that still run high bux for getting the right parts to go along with it? And, if drift can find a T3 for $50, so can I! :D
Swonder67 I have a system so... pulleys is out of the question. However, I can dig the twin turbo setup. :D 1 small one + a bigger one.

You can always get a second battery, and caps maybe a performance alternator. But when you do forced induction, Pulleys add alot of HP. I would get two small turbos, because two small turbos are easier to spool up than one big one. But you better start lookin in the couch cushions for spare change now. :)

you don't want a twin turbo setup on a small displacement motor like your (and mine) ex. The time for the turbos to both spool up would equal about the time you would be shifting gears, and you wouldn't really be making good speed improvements. It is true that you would make awesome power in those last few milliseconds before redline, but it's simply not realistic for real life driving. If your car was for show and you wanted to display posters of your dyno sheets maybe

im waiting for vortech to release a kit for a 2.5L subaru, but all the popular imports get it 1st. not fair!

I'm thinking if you want the absolute cheapest thing possible, the LS wins. And any bolt on turbo kit is gonna cost ATLEAST $2500-$3000. So a B20 turbo would be atleast $5000 plus labor. IF you could get friends and someone who doesn't want thier LS engine, you could get a small turbo from a DSM or something in a junkyard, run custom tubing to a beat up (Which you will spend lots of time cleaning) intercooler. The only thing you'd need to get is a used turbo manifold and you're set. Careful tuning and dyno time COULD get you where you want to go with out spending a fortune. But remember it's all a compromise.

Is a tubular exhaust manifold really neccessary on a street car?
I think a cast manifold will do just as good w/o the higher temperatures. Also, you won't be going for a crap load of power so a cast manifold sounds good.

Both B18B's and B20's come in automatic. Although the only reason I can see that you want to keep it is because you're hesistant about making the jump. Do yourself a favor, learn stick. I can bet you $10,000 you won't regret it.

Ya damn skippy I'm hesitant!!! :hehehe:
Dude! I live in the city (where everybody is an idiot driver), the wife doesn't know how to drive stick & I have been so acclimated to the auto that I'm almost constantly doing something else with the other hand.

When you're merging onto an open highway and you go through the gears Stick is pretty awesome...
When you're stuck in stop and go traffic, Stick will get anoyying...

But hey, look at it this way...learn to drive a stick and you won't hafta depend on your free hand--switch-hitter is the way to go.;)

Dude, I've convinced many an auto driver including myself. I'm telling you, I've never EVER seen a person learn stick and go back to auto because they prefer it. The only ppl that don't like it, are the ones who haven't tried it. It's kinda like sex. :D I'm sorry but I can only call it one thing: Ignorance. "Oh, I'm not a race car driver I don't NEED it", "All that shifting nonsense, it's a pain in the ass", "I live in the city and I drive alot in traffic" No offense but you'll see what I mean when you see it from my point of view.
Once you get used to it, traffic solves itself. You know who convinced me to get a stick? MY girlfriend. She has no performance interest, but after driving both, she believes that you have more control in a stick shift car. She doesn't like driving an auto cause she feels you're not in as much control of what the car's doing, which she feels is dangerous.
"I'm so confident that YOU TOO will be LOVING a stick that I offer a full gauruntee" Goto a used car dealership, pick a beat up stick shift and tell the salesman, "If you teach me how to drive this car, I'll buy it from you." It worked for me. After two or three used car places, I was ready :)
Seriously I bought my honda stick without knowing how to drive it. I was nervous as hell in traffic thinking I'm gonna stall the friggin thing. And I did several times. Until I went to empty parking lot and practiced until I got it right. And the rest is history

Hey xivera, you sound exactly like me now! :D
Dont fret man, if you stick with the D16, you can get close to 200 if not more. However, keeping it auto and doing that may be another story. Look here, this guy from H-T is pushing 192hp running 10psi of boost on a GReddy kit:
http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=89693&page=1
So you can definitely squeeze some useful power out of that little engine, but keeping the auto may be a no-no. If you could swap out the manual for less than an engine swap, then why not go for it. As far as learning stick, its not too difficult, the hardest part is putting it in gear from a stop, especially on an incline. Ive only actually driven stick on two occasions. The first time, I didnt know how to drive auto, much less stick. Then, years later, I tried again and picked it up pretty quickly, almost never stalling. Of course, I didnt drive it through traffic, but thats what the NEIU parking lot is for, practice! :D Whatever you decide to go with, let me know, and most definitely swing by so I can go for a ride and see the results, help me make my power decisions. ;)

If ya keep the auto, contact Level Ten.
Or you can buy my auto Sol Si and use your Civic as a project car...then you have a car for the lady.
And to whoever said pulleys add a ton of power on Hondas...no they don't.

well i have heard and seen ONE manifold break from f-max. drag produces good numbers but from the dyno's i have seen rev hard gets the job done. at 7lbs of boost on a b16 it dyno's out at 250 at the wheel horsepower.
