I posted this in the bodykit forum, but nobody has answered yet...so i'll try here. Does anyone know what i need to do/get to do the front end conversion of a del sol to the 96-00 style civic? How hard is it, and do they make a kit? Any custom fab needed? I really appreciate any info.

If I'm not mistaken, you just need the hood, front bumper, fenders, grill, headlights, and the radiator support. I believe it just bolts on. I've heard many people state this, but I haven't done it personally so don't hold me to it.

I haven't heard of a kit anywhere, but I'd just go to a junkyard and pull what you need. You shouldn't need a kit. I don't think there's any custom fabrication needed, or maybe the radiator support may have to be welded on possibly. I think that's it though.

Keep us updated on how it goes. I had considered a similar conversion for my own, but I like the way the Del Sol looks too. Haven't decided yet what to do, but it's not going to happen very soon either way. :p

no, no just bolt on... its complete hell trust me... If i were you, i would do an integra front end anyway, its the same amount of work but it will look much better.

Ok, spoke with two people over at the Team Sol forums who have done this conversion and got the skinny on it.

For the Civic conversion you need the hood, fenders, front bumper, and radiator support. Then you switch the supports and mount your lights to it. That is all just straight bolt on. Then you can either chop the front part of the Civic fender and weld it to the Del Sol or just custom modify the Del Sol fenders to fit the new headlights. The rear of the Civic fender won't fit the Del Sol doors correctly, and the front of the Del Sol fender obviously won't fit the Civic lights. So mate them both or custom the Del Sol fender.

That's it in a nutshell, folks.

Jonathan... the "bolt on" conversion is the 92-95 civic front.. It's the same size as the sol.. the 99/00 civic is bigger up front I believe.. Andrew - Check with a local body shop... they'll know. If they don't, get a new shop.

Private I saw your post in the other forum and i thought I replied but maybe I did'nt I was going to refer you to Plastic Fork or 94solgirl b/c they both know a lot about the sol.

Emily -

Yeah the '92 - '95 EG coversion should just bolt on since the doors, etc. are the same. Andrew wanted the '96 - '00 EK front though, which he'll have to modify the Del Sol fenders or graft the EK fenders to the Sol fenders to fit both the lights and doors correctly.

Yep... and that's a lot of work for an UGLY conversion.... Andrew - have you ever actually seen the conversion. The chances that it will be done wrong are like 23983493209384 more than it will be done right. And it is fugly if it's done poorly. Those headlights are really big for a sol. Do an s2000 conversion. ;)

I don't think the EK conversion looks that bad, personally. But it requires more work than I really want to do for the conversion and I won't get to keep my aux lights. I like the way the Del Sol looks in the front anyway, so it's stock for me.

yeah, i've seen a lot of pics of the conversion. I personally think it ;ooks awesome. The s2000 would be event better, but that would be even more extensive. If what you say is true, about it being hard to get the conversion done right, i am having second thoughts. When my car is finally done, its gonna be a weekend car. I want it to remain stock looking. I know the EK front end wouldn't be stock, but it would still look like a honda. I might just add the civic lib and some mild side skirts instead. I really don't like the headlights on my sol though.....they just look kiddish.

The headlights are a lot bigger than they look, and so they have to be carefully placed. If they're too far apart, it looks like a frog... too close and they look awkward. I've seen some nice ones, but have yet to see one that looks right.. IMHO, it looks like someone put a sol in front of a really big fan and it's doing the face in the wind thing... in my head it's funny.. trust me.
