Automatic Headlights

Looking for more detailed information on disabling the automatic headlights on a 99 grand am SE, I know the sensor is under the dash defrost blower area, is it ok just to unplug that sesor? I have no prob with DRLs being on but Automatic Headlights is too far for me. Thank you and does anyone know about any recalls or service bulletins for the HVAC system, particularly it sticking in hot and not switching temperatures. Thanks for all responses!
