Help, chugging trouble when cold...

I have a 79 Escort, 2.0l.

When its cold, or especially when the air, or outside temperature, is cold as well, it chuggs like nothing else...

When it warms up, it runs well.

I have a feeling it may be electrical, cause when ever you turn the car off, and get out, you get this major shock off the door frame ~ like "toss you over the other side of the road" kind of shock!!

Any ideas, please?

It seems like it may be the mixture
and carby settings with the choke.
Seems like the choke is forcing in
too much fuel when its cold and flooding
the engine causing the 'missing' and backfiring.

It was a bit of broad query,
sorry to confuse everyone.

Merry Christmas *<|:)

Hi,

Although it seems i am talking to myself, i will list this reply anyway in case anyone is interested..:)

We checked the timing, and it was way out...

Also the choke spring, connected to the heater hose, needed to tensioned as well.

Running like Nascar now tho....

Cheers.

Yeah,

......ta.

Ill have to try that.

I had already replaced the accelerator foot, yknow the one that pushes the accelerator pedal..?

And i had tried the hairdryer in the mornings to warm the sucker up first, that didnt work either. Maybe it was because it was only one of those little travel hairdryers...

I had also tried using the force, but I quickly turned to the dark side when I gave in to my anger at the constant @#$@#$@#$!! backfires....

Now that we have the 'missing' problem fixed, ( which means that the problem is not there any more.... ) maybe Santa WILL bring me a new pair of runners to earth the shock..?

...gee, i hope they're 'Assassins' ...

...and if i do get 'Assissans' , Santas Little Helper is going down.

Cheers,

and apologies,

I hvae fra oto mcuh teim on my hndas, adn nto enoguh slpee.

:)

Andy.
