Turbo Manifold Questions

OK, which is better and in what respects.
A Cast Iron tubo manifold
A Steel tubed Turbo manifold
An Iron tubular manifold

also why do they run the exhuast that powers the turbo thru a different hole than the regular exhaust hole? why not just attach the turbo to a normal header like a dc sports header, it seems like the turbo would spool quiker this way.
I am wondering this because my idea is to get an H22a and rebuild it with stroker kit to 2.5 liters and cmpression ratio of 9:1 then put a quick spooling turbo on it and run 20ish psi, if possible, will have to custom build turbo kit cus nobody makes a decent one with engine management
thoughts would be appreciated

A Steel tubular manifold is the best for power and spool speed, plus it weighs less than a iron tubular design. But, you will usually have to go with custom tubing if you go this route. The cast iron design, i have heard, is better for daily drivers, (it doesn't crack as easy and does not place the weight of the turbo in an awkward position) which is something i would like someone to clarify. If you were to mount the turbo on the tubular designed manifold and support the weight of the turbo with brackets mounted to the engine, would it be suitable for the street?

Interesting conversation. Honestly.. not all stainless steel is good for turbocharging. I dont believe in using ss because of heat transfer, but that is my opinion and from select few.
You will run into just as much fabrication/money in making it work from a header...and that means just as much money would go into making one as to buying one made specifically for T3 turbo's with external wastegates. If you wanted to do the fab yourself... use the "log design". Just keep "optimal air flow" in mind while fabbing it. Jet coat the cold rolled steel when all is done and ready to bolt on.

i wasn't necasarily talking about Stainless. In my opinion, i would get a ceramic coated tubular manifold. $$$ (register closes)

Yeah i know..i just through in my 2 cents worth on that one. But yes tubular design cold rolled steel manifold. Especially equal length...

stainless steel tubulars crack all the time. The weight of the turbo on the manifold is too much and you must support it against the engine with brackets. however a good equal length will flow much better and give you more gains. Iron tubular is a little stronger but heavier but still has welds that will crack (cracks at weakest point). Cast wont give you the best gains but it doesn't really crack often. This is the one I recommend, supposedly revhards cast still flow really good.
