I'm working on a buddy's 97 Merc Villager with 87,000mi. Check engine light came on after a stall out while sitting idle. DTC p0732 p0733 - indicates 2nd and 3rd gear ratio incorrect. Sounds like a sensor problem to me. anyone have experience with this particular problem?
Any help would be appreciated

I had that problem and I took my vehicle to the dealer and it turned out to be Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) sensor/tube it cost about $400 to repair.

Tps sensor also controls tranny shiftting patterns. I have one if you need it. OEM in box.

Did you replace the TPS sensor, and did it work? My 1998 Villager stalled after sitting idle. Then the Service Engine light came on - the DTC Code was P0732 - 2nd gear ratio incorrect. Sounds like either EGR or TPS. Thanks for any help.

Do you know if the TPS would also cause the trans to downshift? It seems like it drops from OD back a gear and if I push slighlty down on the accelerator it shifts back up and when I left off slightly it shifts down again.
Of course this is noticeable only over 40 MPH or so after the OD gear kicks in.
This is a 94 with 255k on it and has performed almost flawlessly since new.
Thanks.

It sounds like you have tranny problem at this point. A sound would indicate it to be a internal problem not like when the TPS is bad it just gives small burst of RPM or will hang up your OD if its really bad but you will get no thumps or clunks etc.

No sounds from trans at all. It just randomly downshifts itself from OD to 3rd. I noticed if I give it a bit of throttle it shifts back up...when I let off it shifts back down. I thought possibly vacuum...now I'm not sure if tps will cause that.
