First you've got to consider that it could be the piston rings letting the oil burn. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that there really is a good way to check to see which is letting the oil leak, other than tear the engine apart.

If it were the valve seals, you'd need to rebuild the head. But that raises the compression, and can easily cause oil to blow past your old piston rings. Once again, the car will burn oil. If I had an engine like that I would just rebuild the whole thing, block and head, so the engine is as good as new.

You can try to put a heavier oil in, up to 10w40 to try to slow if not stop the burning.

The oil trick may not work at all, depending on how bad the leak is, but if it works, it should last for months. You could also use the oil problem as leverage to get the price lower.

This is just my opinion, but $3200 seems like alot for a 91 crx si. I know it's relatively low milage, but unless it is in perfect condition (body/interior wise) I wouldn't go for it. I had trouble getting rid of my 90 civic si. It had a zc, ran great, many new parts, no rust, glossy paint, great interior, and I could only get $3500.

The crx online I would think is worth bidding on, especially since it's only up to 2850, but the reserve isn't met, and I wouldn't pay the buy it now price. Judgeing by the buy it now price, he wants to get his money out of the mods, and that really doesn't happen (it does to a point, but never the $ you put in).

Maybe crx's are going for more where you are, but where I am, you'd never get rid of a 89 crx for 4500. Try going to http://www.kbb.com to check on a car's approximate value for your area.

you can get a crx for not alot of money just usualy it's a right place right time senario. Like my Two Si's were Right Place right time. I got my CRX Si for less than a Grand and I got my Civic For less than half of that (that's in CND funds BTW) so you just have to keep you eye peeled. as for the SI burning oil I would not bother rebuilding the motor, I would try to talk the guy down to 1800$ ( because 3200 for a MINT condition Well running CRX is a little high... let alone one that burning oil.

and once you have your baby swap In a ZC or a D15B, less money than a rebuild and more power.

well that's my .02$ worth

Peace

My friend might be selling his:
http://www.cardomain.com/id/pats_rex
for $3500, 91 Dx w/ B16 swap, I/H/E short shifter, azenas (sp?) and spare wheels, stripped interior, flat black, now returned to stock height.

I'm selling my (rust free, cali car)turbo 91 Civic:
http://www.cardomain.com/id/krustindumm91
for $4k

And my friend wants to trade me his CRX for my civic, if that happens I'll be selling my (rust free) 91 CRX Si for $2200. I/H/E short shifter, flat black wheels/polished lip, brand new white paint, and perfect seats. BUT I can't decide. I always wanted a Si, and I love SOHC's. But I really want a flat black CRX and painting mine would be a waste. I was also planning on stripping the interior in mine.

All in CR, IA.

Just thinking, to make his Si spec I would need new trailing arms, rear sway bar, new seats, and probably redo the wiring (I am a EE major and can't stand wires being more than .25" from the factory location).

My email is [email protected] and I am fairly flexible on the prices, but my friend is NOT.

Probably could also meet in Davenport/Quad cities area.
