Help! Should I Swap To An Sr20?!

ok so here's how it goes, i just recently bought an 89 240sx for $500. i know i know, u guys are all probably thinking its pretty shitty cause i got it for $500, but actually it's in pretty good shape, the guy sold it to me so cheap cause the enginge was shot and thats and he lived like a few hundred clicks outside of town, so yeah i was planning on buying a rebuilt ka24 and sticking that in, but i checked out ebay and saw some pretty cheap sr's. i did a little reading around the posts and im getting the vibe that theres a lotta work and money that has to be put into this. all i need to know is how much work and how much money, like is there going to be some drastic mods just to get the enginge in or what, and i was planning to get my 240 modded from auto to manual, anyone have details on that by an chance? anything from anyone would be great, especially from people who have done these mods before. thanks

go for the sr20 swap. normally i advise to keep the ka, but you got a hell of a deal for 500 dollars.

reward yourself with a fresh engine. remember that you get what you pay for though, so cheaper isnt always better.

probaly shouldnt buy from ebay with a purchase this big. Buy a front clip so you get everything.
i herd www.srswap.com is pretty good. These engines are easy to put in. although wiring is a bitch and you should download a wiring diagram. Search google or buy any tuner magazine because after all it is the replacement for the "Type R" era. Ca18Det is also another good choice, its older, cheaper and is basicly a RB series engine with 2 pistons missing. If i were to swap in a new engine i would go with the CA because not everyone is doing it and its much cheaper

a few grand... 2 at the least, prolly almost 4 though... unless prices have changed in the last month or so, cuz I haven't checked recently

one word to ur questions ....YES.... get the sr20det but not from ebay. Buying an SR20DET engine setup for $1500 or less, or on ebay, can turn into your worst nightmare. Missing ECU/harness/ignitor are extremely difficult to get. (replacement cost: $950, currently not in stock) DO NOT buy an engine from a no-name seller with no reputation.

If you want to go SR, then go SR. Just spend more up front and buy from a reputable company because if you buy a cheap one from someone you've never heard of then you'll most likely end up spending more in the long run while replacing/sourcing parts.

I was just going to buy a sr20det the other day the clip would have costed me a little more then 3k and install an extra thousand if I didnt want to do it my self, I said fuck it and just got a rebuilt ka so I can make the body look decent, if you do get it buy a whole clip, or you may just be stuck with an engine for a while, you may think your getting a good deal with just the engine and a few other parts...but your best off buying the whole clip.

but do you want the sr20det or the sr20de?there are some pretty nice sr20de variants in japan that you can get. it'd help make your car rare too. theres an sr20de with rather high compression and variable timing, i say get that.

Hey I swapped an SR20 blktp (S14) in my car, an 89 240sx fast back that I got for $400. I added few things to it (HKS piping, intake, boost gage actuator …etc) it cost me a good amount of money, and it was not done at the “next-door mechanic”. The swap was conducted at a shop that specializes in 240s. The car is hella fast and I have the peace of mind that the installation was don professionally. I gave them the car, and in 5 weeks the car was finished. Keep in mined that I saved every penny for the last 9 month and I spend almost all of it on the car. (I got the job just for the car, I’m a student and I managed my time were I did not take summer classes but I worked 60 h a week at a 711!)

Also the car it self need some attention, moon roof seats seals breaks…etc, count that in too!

Car = $. Calculate how much funds and time your willing to put in it. 240z are nice car even with the K engines. What you need is a calculator and a good shop near you that dose the swap.

Damn they made you wait a long time......I know shops that do it in a little less then a week, anyway to the dude taking about the de or det....sure you'll be more original with the de....but slower, you weigh out the trade off your self...
