hey all, im about to get my swap done in the next 2 months, and i need to start looking for the parts, im getting the jdm vtec-d15b, and a si tranny, now i was just thinking, the 90-91 si ecu doesnt have vtec... so should i get a ecu that has vtec? like a 5th gen si?

Its the same setup as a D16Z6...

you can convert to OBD1 and use a P28/P30

you can use an OBD0 MPFI (PM6/PG7/PR4) and have it chipped for proper maps (not absolutely necessary, but better for performance) & use an rpm activated switch

You can use any of those ECU's and use a VTEC/fuel controller

which one out of those is better?

I would say the best bet would be to conver to OBD1. that way you have the stock ECU made for that particular engine.

I like the idea of chipping the OBD0 ECU with P28 maps so in essence, you are imitating an OBD1 P28 ECU with your PM6 ECU. then you just use an rpm activated switch for the VTEC, and with your fuel and timing maps tuned for VTEC, you have a good solution.

in the end, it all comes down to you. would you rather swap to OBD1 and change distributors and injectors and other things, or chip your ECU and run an rpm activated switch?

but hear its not hard to convert to obd1... what would be harder, and more money, to go obd1 and get the ecu, ir keep obd0 and chip the ecu? and whats the switch thing you are talking about?

If you already have an MPFI car (i.e. Si) then chipping the ECU and using an rpm activated switch would be the cheapest. (Actually, just using an rpm activated switch with a stock PM6 Si ECU would be the cheapest, but im talking *real* solutions here)

converting to OBD1 would mean buying a P28 ECU, buying an OBD1 Z6 distributor, OBD1 injectors, and all the plugs that go with it.

Like i said, its all personal preference.

BTW, MSD RPM Activated Switch (PN 8950) is a switch that you hook up to the VTEC solonoid via a 30 amp relay and it takes "pills" or modules labeled with a certain rpm. when the engine hits that rpm, it activates the VTEC solonoid. A VTEC controller (Fields, Apex'i, etc.) will use an electronic circuit to activate VTEC and you can also tune your fuel with it.

convert to MPFI, and since you will already have OBD0 injectors and distributor, you might as well get a P28 and convert your ECU harness over to OBD1.

i see you use turboEDIT in your sig, i've heard about that, what is that. how could i use it on my swap?
