Just curious about the vw gti vr6's. I am in the market for a new car and wondering if there is a difference between the vr6 and the glx vr6? Also my friend had a 98 vr6 and the eurosport intake sounded awesome. Do the 02 and 03 vr6's have that deep throaty sound? Thanks

VW seems to have a knack for changing their model names lately, theres no difference between a Vr6 and a GLX Vr6.
The '03s definitely have a different sound than the Mk3 Vr6 that you refer to. However, such things are relative and its no basis for buying a car.

One BIG thing you gotta take into consideration is the fact that the 02' VR6s and 98 VR6s are different engines. The main dif is that the 98 has 2 valves per cylinder and the 02' version has 4 valves per cylinder. The 02's is producin about 25 more HP, so ya u will get that throaty sound but please dont base getting a car on the sound the intake makes. If u want throaty sound, take ur whole filter off ur car and have fun with that. That'll give u a loud throaty sound, cuz obvisouly thats all u want...also how many stickers do u got on ur car, cuz if u dont have a lot, id recommend adding a few just to make sure that taking off the filter gives u that full HP gain. I like to think 1 sticker will give u about 10 HP, depending on the size.

its true, its true. The difference in the engine's isn't just "paper specs" either, they have a very different feel to them.
Make sure to put a VTEC Inside sticker on there, those are always sexy.

Who the hell cares about 1/4 mile time? I don't drag race... I go to REAL tracks, where you can test REAL driving skills. Ya know, as in more than just, pressing the accelerator.

but on the more serious note what kind of car do you got. because i am gonna be in the market for a new one in the spring. just looking around now so i know what i want and im taking opinions. I havan't driven every car in the world so i wanna find more out about other cars. so far im leaning toward the gti vr6. the 03 was the bigger motor and six speed right? I was either looking at 02 or 03 is there a big difference in the motors/body/tranny?

yeah the 03 has the 6 speed tranny, but not a larger engine. The difference in the engines is that the 02 and prior had a 12 valve 6 cylinder, whereas the 03 has a 24 valve. This increased power from 172hp to 200hp.
But, if i were you, I would hold out for the Golf r32 model. I'm not sure of the exact release date on this side of the ocean, but it comes with a 3.2 liter Vr6, 240hp, 6 speed tranny, and all wheel drive. Comparable in performance to the Evo and WRX STi. Oh, and it looks freakin sexy too.
As for what I drive, at the moment I drive nothing because "the man" took my license away. Apparently, they don't like it when you do 110mph in a 55 zone.

Go figure :disappoin
I thought the R32 made more than 240hp. Anyways ya the R32 kicks ass it is only a little behind the EVO and STI and its still NA! Now throw a turbo on their and you will be kicking some crazy ass. Its also going to be cheaper than the EVO and STI. Like you said though your done with the racing thing so even just stock it would be a good pick.

neh that wasn't while racing, that was just cruising down the highway, hahahaha.
According to tests done at VW Vortex, the r32 actually keeps up the Mitsu and the Subaru pretty dang well, it actually won a couple of the different tests (too lazy to check which ones).

Woah theres seriously gonna be that R32, i haven't heard anything about that one. Thatd be fucking tight, turbo charged too. Itd kill an EVO and I'm a big fan, i want one. But answering that guys question, I myself dont have a 99 GTi, but my friend does and I've helped him put some wrench time into it. It is a nice car but Id assume the newer models are faster. Id say go for those ones, if u have deep enough pockets.
