Hey.. was just curious if anyone has had any experience in adjusting the valves in a SHO motor. I've got ticking I can almost pinpoint to a shim that may have popped out of the tappet bucket. if anyone has any clue as to what I'm talking about. Let me know, I have had this car for a long time, and have rebuilt it to better than stock in every way. This car is my baby, and she is my sexy bi__h! I only want the best thats why I do the work. But as I have never tried to do this on any motor, so when I tear it apart I might have a question. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Eric

there is a video you can buy at www.shonutperformance.com which deals with the valve adjusment. its a "required" maintenance at 60K on the SHO motors. good luck.

I have done the valve adjustment before...
If you have a shim that has popped out of a bucket, then you need new cams. If you have not ejected a shim, then the valve adjustment is very easy... I suggest getting the 60k video.
Here are the results to my valve adjustment....

i'm thinking that its more than likley the tensioner up front. but I dont see how a ship poppin out would require new cams. The motor has 2 minuites of run time on it, after the tick got loud. Its not like I'm still driving it, she's my baby, and I doubt that the lobe is that bad off. But i suppose stranger things have happened.

Check the Intrax website... They are progressive... SHO Shop is just a reseller, that does not mean they are correct!

Taken from the Intrax (http://www.intraxsuspension.com/prod_springs.html) website:
"What makes INTRAX springs better? INTRAX designs most of its lowering kits with progressive rates, to satisfy the two features you've asked for most. First, the lowered look. Most other brands' springs are linear rate, as this is cost-effective but doesn't necessarily provide the visual effect you desire. By designing a progressive spring, we achieve the lowered look while maintaining safety standards of spring preload at suspension droop. The second requirement is ride quality. Since most of you identified that you drove 90% of your mileage to and from work, you wanted to retain some ride quality enjoyed with OE springs. If you're driving to work on a racetrack, "Sport" or "Race" springs from other brands may be for you. INTRAX progressive springs provide high performance looks and comfortable ride quality. "

Do you realize how many times that cam has turned in 2 minutes? If a shim ejected, the cam lobe is shit canned. You will need another camshaft to replace the crapped one.

You Never finished their quote, so I figured I'd help you out.... explain these....
Super Sport kits provide aggressive drivers with substantially stiffer spring rates and some of the lowest fitments available for street cars, Super Sport springs lower vehicles 2.25"-2.5", providing race car looks with handling to match. All Super Sport kits are made with the same quality material and design standards used with our lowering sport spring kits. Super Sport lowering springs are designed to be used with aftermarket sport shock absorbers. Minor modifications or camber kits may be required.
Now come on, why would you need to get a camber adjustment kit for taller progressive springs? Really? And btw, the springs I have on mine I bought from Intrax back in 98 I think it was. I am POSITIVE THEY ARE LINEAR. They may have changed things now, I'm not sure I'm not a representive. Anyway.... Do your homework, and let me know... my car sits almost an inch lower than most i've seen with lowering kits. I have adjustable Koni's to match as the motorcraft strut housings were too tall. But you know all that.. :icon16:

Well she's back together now, as I had to replace the chain tensioner near the radiator. Valves newly adjusted, oil change, another new fuel filter, and disconnected the A/C system, 20 degree temps and dry pavement got me in the 12's again. So anyway, if you ever feel like racing for titles or donating your car, let me know... This is my 5th SHO and I've only done my own work, this car has 191k miles on it with origional rings, no smoke, passes E-Check, 29.8 MPG Highway, Consistant 12 second quarters, all throttle, no bottle, triple black stealth sedan, i've even got my own custom overdrive gear in my MTX... my point is that I'm not just another idiot out here, and i've seen shims ejected and not had to worry about the cams.. if you know how to use a grinder, and have a thicker shim, what difference does it make really? Do you homework on this too and let me know.... :loser:

First off, if your car is anywhere close to stock, its not running 12's.. Sorry, you're a liar. Thats all their is to it. Unless your car is completely gutted, (or the engine is not in a taurus anymore), and the engine is a 3.6L with every bolt on made for the engine, you are POSITIVELY not running 12's. I have a very healthy '92 (194 fwhp) and thats good for a best of 14.6 so far... and the '89s are not much, if any lighter or faster. What they lose without ABS and airbags they gain in structural weight.
Second, The intrax springs sold for the SHO are NOT the Super Sport springs, and they ARE Progressive. You're wrong, deal with it.
Third, if you eject a shim, it does irrepairable damage to the camshaft. You can't jsut "use a grinder" and magically fix it. Once the damage is done there is no way to have the camshaft profile be the same again, ever.
Lastly, you aren't beating YamahaSHO... I promise.

12.8 or 12.9 is still a 12, tires and suspension is obviously key. If you preload the front end a little it does better for take off. The right clutch while its freezing out side and ya first turn it on, 'still in warmup mode' this car screams.. I never said anything about rod length did I, or any honing or polishing? I also have an 02 Lightning if you want to race something else..... You should know as anyone else out there that these cars can be sleepers..... why do you think it has 191k miles on it?!?!? hmmm 1 of 2 reasons... I've only put 5k on it in the 3 years I've owned this one.... Anyway.. all points aside....... Glad to see someone out there that is serious about these cars... no one gives two thoughts to a taurus driving around .. fuck chevy and all that shit, drink a beer, smoke one, whatever.. thats just my :2cents:

That 12.9 is from a lightend 2700lbs '89 with a 3.2, bolt-ons, and N20.... If your Lightning has an excess of 600hp/600tq... then we can talk, until then, you stand NO chance to what I have up my sleeve.

If you guys are too broke to afford real preformance then sorry. Yeah a lot of this car has been taken out. A lot of steel is missing in this car btw, no spare tires or none of that shit, hell the sub is even out. the ac ssytem weighed a hundred pounds or so, my pulleys aren't ASP or anything, they are all custom, only set l;ike em, injector size, pulse and all that shit is different, you have no idea you fags. Bring whatever you got and all that. Sad to see ignorance like yours anyway I dont care what you guys say anymore jealousy will get you no where, and if you can't understand why my car does these things, good... thats how it's supposed to be. That is the best time I've had out of the car, it's almost a second faster in the cold temps, and the stretch of road I use does have a slight downward grade near the start. So all that helps, but anyway you guys are smart and i'm a rich idiot with too much money in my sho, you want it, come race for it. Enough talkin' shit about it, come and earn it..... This is the most ridiculous BS story I've ever heard. There is no way on God's green earth that a 3.0 with no motor mods is going to pull 12's. The only way you're going to pull 12's out of that car without some sort of modification such as nitrous, blower or turbo. No tire or suspension mod is going to get you in the 12's. Oh, but wait, you must have rocket mod attached to your subframe right? Yeah, that's what it is...the subframe rocket mod! The blinker fluid mod does well too.
This is just lunacy and you really should shut your pie hole before you make yourself out to be more of a fool. Ohhhhh....too late....sooo sorry.
Then, as if you had not made a big enough ass of yourself, then you elaborate on having a custom overdrive gear!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! When do you stop with the lies? You're killing me here. If I may be so bold to ask, where did you get such overdrive gear? How much did it cost? What mods did you make to the case of the transmission and how? What gear shafts did you decide to use? You must have swapped the case of the tranny, if so, what case did you switch to? How did you get it to bolt up to your clutch? Did you swap the bell housing as well? And from what vehicle? With all that power, you must have a LSD, yes? You do still have the Mazda transmission in there right?
Your claims are full of huge holes. Prove your claims or shut the hell up. Oh yeah, I'll run you for slips, bring it. I dare you.

I won't call you an outright liar, but I will say this:
POST PICS and/or VIDEO
Until then, You will not be taken seriously.
If you do indeed have a 12 second SHO, I would like to SEE it, as I'm sure most (if not ALL) SHO enthusiasts would.
If this SHO does exist and it does what you claim, then there shouldn't be any problem with you getting some pix and video of it.
The proof is in the pudding.
Good day.

Get it right ya little woman. You stooped to this level before I did. I was talking about cars, and here you are insulting me. So eat the corn outta my shit, and drink these nuts straight from the tap like the little homo that you are. I'll say this much. You middle aged old farts, can't take a joke, or take anything for that matter. SO I'M ENDING IT NOW. DONT EXPECT TO HEAR A RESPONSE. You people aren't worth my time anyway. Bye bye Nancy boy's

Most of us here that have commented are in our 20's (or somewhere near).... Also, most of us have shown a mature attitude... Your lack of maturity has totally taken away ALL CREDIBILITY from any statement you have conjured up.
If you want help with your car, we are going to be honest with you... The cool things about forums is that we can go back and read how this all started... no need to make excuses...

Any ways... my true point.........................
Anyone want to race SHO's this summer? there is a nice road track I know of just out side of Indianapolis, and we can see just who can do what. All I wanted is a race and it sounds like I got a few. Who is stupid and who is not? Wait til mid April, could be early June tho. Their scheduling for events is strange.. anyway. I'll leave another message when it's time. Have a nice day guys.
