2000 Ford Taurus SE SVG-Engine Block Heater

We live in CT and I wonder if using this feature (never have before) is useful. Are there any things to "look-out" for?

BTW,the car is left outside.. so I'd run a plug from a 3 prong/grounded outlet to the plug under the bumper (in my driveway)
