Alignment costs/right time to have it done

I am getting new wheels this week and need an idea of what it might cost to get them put on my car...
What is a rough estimate for getting a front and rear alignment done?
When is the best time to get an alignment done? When you get new wheels or when you get new suspension? Or both?
I am planning on getting new shocks or coilovers in a few months to lower my ride, so should I wait til then or do it now when I get my new wheels put on?

Whenever you change the suspension you should get an alignment OR every 1-2 years. I get mine done more often since I race which puts more stress on the suspension.
Putting new wheels and tires on doesn't change your alignment.

An alignement is suggest with new tires(if it hasn't been done for a while) & some suspension parts ( changing ride height, tie rods, etc.)
4-wheel alignment is normally about $100.00
To mount, balance, & install wheels/tires we would charge 1.5hrs of labor at our shop - 1.5hrs = $97.50
If your tires aren't showing signs of misalignment, then I would wait til the suspension parts are installed.
Please don't be cheap with your suspension choice!

As Jackassi said you shouldn't need to touch the alignment if you are just changing te wheels'tires unless you are fond of curbs and just can't resist hittin it every once in a while. Suspension on the other hand you need the alignment especialy after ride heaight changes. That'll require a camber kit to. And also good suspension is key even when going in a straight line.

Cool thanks for the info!
I am ordering the wheels/tires online and they will be mounted and balanced before they arrive to me, so I just need them put on my car. My car is just over three years old and the alignment is still good, but I will probably wait til I get new suspension gear to do the alignment then.

You get full alignments, then have to pay for camber/toe? A "full 4 wheel" alignment would include inspecting for any bent/broken/damaged suspension parts & worn tires. Then if nothing is wrong, CAMBER - CASTER - TOE all get adjusted. I never heard of place charging extra . . . . . I guess you get what you pay for. Now if its a stock civic where camber CAN NOT be adjusted, the price for alignment should be no more or less.
hobbesateclavin - you should be able to install the new wheels/tires yourself for FREE.
