Busted spring on 2000 Ford Focus ZX3

I just recently had a spring break on me and it sounded like it came from
under the steering column around where the clutch pedal is mounted. While I was sitting at an intersection, I heard a snap and something fell on my left foot as I had it pressed on the clutch pedal and it fell onto the floor. When I stopped, I looked and it was a spring that had busted at one of the hook ends. I had no problems with driving, nor was there any difference in the way the handling felt as far as pressing and depressing the clutch pedal. Has anyone else ever had this problem with a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3? The dealer tells me it might be a spring that is connected to the clutch pedal and it's purpose is to keep the pedal stable as it's pressed and depressed while shifting. Should this be something to be alarmed and panicked about or is it just a small thing that can be overlooked?

Thanks for any and all help.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. However, it broke so you might as well get it fixed. I'm not sure what the spring is for, but not having it there might stress another component. Personally, I would put it at the top of my weekly To-Do list, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
