Is it hard to find parts for a 383 stroker engine?

PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) has 383 kits in different forms...from a complete 383 engine, to individual parts. Go to Google.com and type in the name above, and it should show their website...they may even have an online catalog. But if you're just going to do your own "home-made" 383, all you'll need is a 350 block (.030 over) and rods, a 400 crank with the journals cut down to work with the 350 block and rods, "383" pistons, and a 400 balancer and flexplate/flywheel.

A 400 destrokes to a 377 instead of a 383 it does it with a 350 crank and "spacer bearings" because a 400"mains are bigger and it's bore is 4.125 instead of 4.000 and a 400 crank" stroke is 3.750" and a 350 is 3.480" so I hope this was of some help. t

If you use a 400 block and 400 crank it has to be 400 ci motor unless the only think that I can think of right off is maybe using shorter rods and pistons with a longer distance between the piston ring and the top of the piston but it still has the same stroke you've got me stumped on this one if you could give us the sizes and stroke list of the crank and rods and pistons I would really like to know that secret but I bet the build plans has a shorter throw crank. do you have those build plans now?

If I had to choose between a 350 block/400 crank, or a 400 block/350 crank, I'd go with the 350 block. 400 blocks have siamesed cylinders, and the cylinders tend to heat and cool unevenly because of it. And plus with the 400 crank, you'll get a longer stroke (more torque), which means more pulling power...you'll feel it in the "seat of your pants". I used to run a 406 (400 crank/400 block .030 over) in the 1/4 mile...lots of torque...but I wouldn't want to get stuck in traffic with it. What ever route you decide to go, remember to always use the longer 350 rods instead of the 400 rods. Since the 400 rods are shorter, they tend to create more "side load" on the piston and cyl. walls.

I just got done reading an article by a guy who took a 350 block and stroked it using a 400 crank and he said it was much more trouble than it was worth. He would have bought a kit if he had known the expense and headaches of doing his own. Im goin with a kit. Good luck.
