Replacing hinge pins

I have a 94 Explorer Sport, Need to replace the door hinge pins. I have a set ordered. Whats the best way to remove the old ones??

I need to do the same thing on a '91 Explorer 4 door. THe drivers door in dropping and we can hardly get in. By looking they do not looke to be easy to do. Looks like riviets rather than bolts? We replased the pins on a S-10 and it was easy but this looks like a big job! Has anyone done it and can you share some tips?

Define hard. Hope you ordered the bushings too. It is the bushings that have the most wear. You can drill out the rivet end. The other end is splined and is forced into the hinge so you need to drive the pin out. I have done this alone with just a plastic bucket and a few boards to support the door. Easier if you have help. Just do one at a time

I ordered at a Ford Parts online site. The site never listed any bushings. I was under the inpression that the hinges had to be replaced, maybe just replacing the bushings will remove the door sag?? That is what I did years ago on a S-10 but by just lookng at these hinges I can not see how to replace pins/bushings. So are you saying that after you drill out the rivet and take the door off that you can then take the hinge apart and replace the bushings? What about replacing that rivet? Do I need a special tool or is it replaced with a bolt etc?

In the "help" section of most Auto parts stores they sell pin and bushings set for F-150s they are the same size. Its not that difficult, need to remove the door, then drill or grind the head of the old hinge pin, remove old bushings replace. Should take 20 mins. per side. You will need a friend to hold the door. No special tool needed to install new pin.

I've heard that at least one of the hinges can't be replaced without tearing out part of the dash. Personally, I never thought that was true. Let us know how you make out.

My HELP pins were extra long. I cut them to length, drilled a center hole, and tapped it. A button bolt tightened up the hinge bracket which tends to bow when the center pin rivet is drilled out. Makes the job a little neater.

You only need to take the dash out if you need to remove the entire hinge from the body.

Like he said, he bought the entire hinge. I can't remember why, but I bought one new hinge for $16 and ground the end of the rivet off. This was after a body guy said I had to remove the dash. Then I used the the new half of the hinge on the door and pin coupled with the old half on the frame. I had previously done just pins and bushing on an eaelier one.

I guess I am not understanding. If you need to take the dash apart to repalce the hinge, and you need to take the door off to replace the pin and the bushing then don't you need to take the dash apart just to replace the pin and bushing?

WAIT an min---do I just unbolt the door and leave the COMPLEAT hinge attached to the side body assembly and then replace the pin and bushing and then bolt the door back up? I can take the hinges back if all I need are the pins and hinges but it didn't look to me like they were replaceable.

I replaced the entire hinge assembly and just had to remove the plastic panel on the left side of the emergency brake pedal to get to one of the bolts. I also loosened the top hinge to remove the lower. Entire job by myself took 2hrs.
