bought a 1986 GXL... LSD ?

Hi, I just recently (about 2 hrs ago lol) bought a 1986 GXL RX-7, and have not yet brought it home. I picked it up for $100, as the lady I bought it from didn't want to invest anymore money in it, and had it sitting there for about a year (flooded engine). Well, I was looking online for the specs, and came across a post in another forum that stated that the GXL models came with LSD? Is this true? And if it is, was this standard or an option? thanks for any help.

not for sure but I think it was an option... pretty sure pre 86 didn't have, and mostly 88-92 mostly had them but inbetween I couldn't tell ya haha

OK here is how you tell if you have a working LSD

put your car on jack stands crawl under it and turn the drive shaft. if both wheels turn the same direction you have a LSD. Or you can doa smokey burn out and have your friends watch and check the black marks on the pavement. 1=pegleg 2=LSD

From the factory the drain plug had a little tag on it that says "Limited Slip Differential", or something like that.

If that isn't there, proceed with the following 2 tests.

If the compression is still good, you got yourself one hell of a deal.
Actually, even if the motor is toast, you still have all the goodies that the GXL came with.

Only the following FCs had a LSD from the factory:
86-88 GXL
87-91 T2
88 GTU
89-90 GTUs (however not the 89-90 GTU)
It is also rumored that a few rare 91 coupes with both the A (upgraded the interior trim, added a power sunroof, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, and 4 piston front disc brakes and vented single piston rear brakes) and the B package (leather seating, a CD player, and rear cargo cover) came with a LSD, but you should note that Mazda denies that any FC other than the T2 came with a LSD in 91). You can also tell by looking at the differential as there will be a LSD tag on S4 cars with a LSD.

A couple verts made it out of the factory with LSD in the rear end also
