I've had alot of problems since I leased my blazer. Now when I turn the key in first position, It makes clicking sounds and all the lights on the dash flash on and off as it is making all kinds of clicking sounds. If I turn the key to start it. It doesn't even sound like it wants to start.

Does anyone have any ideas for this problem.
Thanks!

same thing happened to me last week. you need a new starter. they run about $280 unfortunatley.. Thats including the core (the bad starter as a trade in)
its unfortunate but thats what your problem is.

I would check the battery and to positive cables first...sounds like a low voltage problem

i dont think the lights/radio would function in the auxilery position if it had to do with battery voltage..

first off, you shouldnt doubt GMMerlin, the man has probably forgotten more than we will ever know about cars. check his sig, he knows his stuff.

second, voltage isnt the only thing needed, you also need amperage. low current will cause many problems..... ie. lights work, but engine wont crank------the most common cause would be a loose battery cable. i know this first hand, as when i got off work thursday morning at 3am., i opened the door to my Blazer, all lights worked, dash lit up as i turned the key until i hit start, then everything went dead except for some relays that were having fits.

meanwhile i was in 6 inches of snow digging out my battery jumpstarter, and when i went to hook it up, decided to wiggle the battery cables, and they were both loose.

ok FIRST OFF whats with the attitude. I was just trying to help.
and SECOND OFF i dont know about the other guy 'knowing more' then me, i am pretty sure, from the explination given, it is indeed probally a silinoid in the starter.

no attitude there..........simply stated not to doubt someone with the experience GMMerlin has.

the guy said "Now when I turn the key in first position, It makes clicking sounds and all the lights on the dash flash on and off as it is making all kinds of clicking sounds."

how do you get solenoid from this? first off hes not turning the ignition to the start position at first, the first position is RUN, this is where everything
powers up when it works like it should. the clicking he hears is all the relays not getting enough current to hold closed.

he then states that turning the key to start does nothing at all.

you have to carefully read what someone posts, and start with the most simple things first, then work up to part replacement if needed, instead of flying in to tell the guy he needs a new starter, cause is he ever gonna be pissed when he puts a new one on and still has the same trouble.

the exact same thing happened to me with 3 different vehicles, and in every incident i needed to put in a new starter..
(on a 86 pontiac paresienne, a 90 dodge dakota and my 97 blazer)

O.K. guys, no need to fight...
Since Ace2003 stated that when he turns the key to the first position things start flickering and clicking...that to me is an indication of a low voltage problem...
If he has posted the when he turned the key to the start position and things started clicking and flickering..I still would have told him to check the battery and cables........
When trying to determine what is wrong with a vehicle, you must start with the basics and do a little diagnosis before jumping in and replacing parts...Not saying that 97blazers post was incorrect, but if you read my answers to peoples questions, you will see that I usually don't tell them to replace a part without checking a few things first.....what would have happened if ACE would have installed a starter under your advise and he still had the same problem? He would have been out 100 bucks and some time for replacing the starter.....If you check the basics first, most of the time you are only out some time for checking and you will be surprised how often problems are caused by something as simple as a loose battery cable.
Its good to get second, third and fourth opinions about car problems...it helps educate people.
Now lets move on and fix some cars.... :)
