stinky air conditioner/fan

hey guys,

my husband's pathfinder smells like somthing crawled up into the fan system and died. the mechanic said that it would cost about 800 bucks to take the dash off and check to see if there was anything behind there. he didn't suggest anything else like flush out the hoses (if that's at all possible) there doesn't look like there's anything unusual under the hood. can anyone suggest anything or give me instruction on how to take the dash apart myself? (i'm pretty handy if i say so myself) it's been stinkin for about two months now.

There might be mold and bacteria growing on your A/C evaporater.Before I would take the dash apart I would go to a parts store and look for a product for this. I think Interdynamics makes something. Or if you can find a shop that carries BG products. Find where the fresh air intake is for the hvac system,usually in the passenger side cowl area turn the A/C on fan on high ....Not on max let it draw fresh air into it. Take the product and spray it into the air inlet then shut it off let it sit.Try this a few times.
