HALO Projector Headlamp problems....

Okay, I have the HALO Projector Headlamps for my civic. They had been working fine for a couple months, and then they started to frits a bit, first the halos started the flicker, now they dont even work. Then my right one of the projector lights went out. Now all that works is my left low beam & my high beams. I already tried soldering the HALO connections and it didn't make a difference. I checked my connections and my fuses and everything seems to be in tact. Anyone had this prob. before? Someone please help! Thanks.

what is the halo part made of? is it a neon tube or what?

I've heard of a few people having that problem but no work ever went into ever solving them.. Were did u get them buy the way? I tried to find a pair for my civic earlier this year and couldn't. Were told they were not in production anymore. :dunno: Ended up getting Blue Ion projections. Someone was selling a DIY angel eye conversion kit on ebay. U didn't buy one of them did you? Probably just poor manufacturing :disappoin

Well, I got them off of ebay, they are Gen3's - Chrome HALO projector lamps (They also sell the black ones). I have seen those conversion kits you are talking about too. I still haven't figured it out yet, its really driving me nuts.

the halo part probably has a replaceable bulb, so check it and make sure the socket os good too.

The headlights are replaceable, don't they use the stock bulbs?

Okay, first off to the guy that said "the halo's must have a replaceable blub." No, they don't, they are lite by LED's, and when the LED burns out, that's it. Of course, LED's are supposed to last longer than bulbs, so yea. But when it burns out, thats it...out can't just take the LED out and replace it. You'd have to take the headlight housing apart. As for the Low Beam on one side going out...did you try to replace the low beam bulbs, install it and then turn the lights on. The bulb has to be fully installed to work in the projecotrs. If you hook it up but don't actually put it in the projector and install it, it will not work. Try replaceing the low beam bulbs, as I know low beams in projectors can burn out rather quickly, especially when you get the "high output" or "HID look blueish/purple" lights. Where you running this type of lite? That could be why it burned out. The bulbs in the projecotrs are not "stock bulbs." The stock bulb used is dual filament, and porjectors use 2 bulbs. Seperate low and high. The low bean should be H3 bulbs, and the high beam most likely is are H1 or 9005 bulbs. I am guessing that yours are H1 bulbs for the high beam. Some Projecotrs do use 9005 high beam bulbs though. As for the Angel Eye connection, there shouldn't be any soldering. You just have to cut off the wire a little bit below each splice, and re-splice the wires. It may be a loose wire below/around the splice. I know with my angel eyes, they stopped working after my bumper was dropped for some work and re-installed. I pulled all the wires out the side of the frame near the corner lamp and checked it...it flicked on...it was a bad splice that had been worn/messed up....and second, a part of the wiring where this black rudder thingy covered was loose....so I wrapped it real real tight in electrical tape to force a striaght and secure connetcion and respliced it...that fixed the problem. The careless install of the bumper had messed the connection, but all it took was re-spliceing and wrapping of the connections. Checked it out. For the low beam, get a test light and see if there is ANY POWER going to them at all if repalcing the bulb does't work. If there is no power, the problem is somewhere else.

Stock bulbs are not dual filament.....9005 and 9006 bulbs are used, so he could be using stock bulbs if those are what fit into the projector lamps

No projecotors, with maybe the execption of TYC, use that low beam (9006). I'd be shocked if his used it. It would have to be a very high qaulity one usually, which is why I said "maybe TYC." I know almost all Halo's on the market use H3 low beam, and a lot throw out a fog beam style wide pattern, which ins't good for dark and rainy nights...it is split for high beam 9005 and H1. His brand I beilive uses H1 I am gonna guess, through don't quote me as I'd have to see it. The easier thing to do it take the bulb out, look at the number on it, and go buy the proper one. Also, as I stated before, if he is using the "HID look" bulbs, that is most likely why it burnt out quickly. A lot of those only last a matter of months in projectors. Still, just check the bulb before you go out and replace it; and as for my wiring info, I can persoanlly vouche for that. I have changed the bulbs on many projectors of different brands, and I re-wired and re-spliced my Halo's myself last week. Lot's of the time the install is done with shoddy work from other palces I have noticed, in regards to the wiring. If his projector does indeed use a true low beam bulb and not an H3, that's cool, because as I said earlier, almost all use an H3. remember to fully install the bulb and put the metal wire holding it in back, and close the housing back up to see if the new one works, espeically with the H3. It won't work otherwise.

Well, you were right about the H1 part. It was an H1 bulb($7.00 @ WalMart). As for the HALO's I will have to try splicing the wires again, my question then is, should I not even bother soldering the wires in the case of having to splice and re-splice?? What a damn pain, those Halo's can't burn out can they? Just to re-cap I have the SONAR Gen3 Projector Halo's (Chrome) Here is a picture

Got any pics on your car??

No need to soder it, just splice it and use either wingnuts (endcaps) ans then wrap electrical tape around the connection/cap...or butt connectors and crip it...electrical tape it....also, are they properly wired into the paerking lights.....that connection coul dbe it too, so check it all, and splice in the connections you need...remember to wrap well with electrical tape when your done. Also, the LED's can burn out, but it usually takes a little while, it usualy doesn't happen quickly....but yes, the LED's that light the "angel eye" can burn out...and once they do, they're burnt out, you can't replace them. Still, try checking all the connections...check the length of the wire for places the wire could have been bent and caused a loose connection. I know of this occuring on several occasions, as the angel eye wires are pretty thin gauge.

I probably got the 92 and up headlights mixed up in my head at the time of the post, since those are dual filament headlights (like the 92-95 civic has)...it's all good, the stock headlights really don't pretain to the discussion about the projectors anyways, but it's all good.

Yeah.. I went to hook up my halos tonight... The passenger side one wouldn't light up anymore.. I don't know when it stopped working as I never had the halo part hooked up... Oh well...

I bought them for the projector low beam and aircraft landing light-like high beam :) .. I like them better than stock.. they did, however, require upgrading the bulbs to Osram EDM H1 lows and Narva H1 highs (both German elements IIRC)... and meticulous aiming... but they do light up the road quite nicely...

The 4 chinese H1's that are included with them aren't very good... I had one fail almost immediately...

Yea, the headlights come un-aimed....so you have to spend awhile aiming them...and the lights they come with do indeed suck ass...your correct, upgrading bulbs does help out. Still, bulbs burn out more feqently than you would think, especially the lower quality ones....I've seen cheap ass bulbs burn out in a matter of days in projectors...also, the wiring for the angel eyes...some of the brands have a black rubber part along the wiring...there the wires, this bigger part that is maybe an inch long and is covered by rubber....it is a frail part, and it's easy to break the connection there...I have noticed that w/ a lot of angel eyes, when they stop working, it's because the area where the rubber surrounds the wire and goes in there is weak, and can come loose. It can look okay, it's hard to tell by looks. This could be the source of your problem.
