im in the final stages of lookin for a car....its either an integra or a dsm(which id DEFINATLY rather). thing is, i also DEFINATLY want awd, but GSXs and TSi AWDs r both hard to find and expensive (with decent mileage), then again ive been lookin at 2Gs. i know a 1G would have many more miles than a 2G, but since i dont care about looks, and i would LOVE to save money, would it be economical/SAFE to find a 1G, rebuild the engine and eventually boost up the power? my long term goal would be 400HP. id appreciate ANY input. thanks!

the 1'g has some better features then the 2g' the head is more free flowin and it has the 6-bolt motor, the turbo also is better on the 1'g it is a 14b as opposed to a t-25.. in short the 1'g will make hp quciker 400 hp is obtanial..

yeah, ive read a million times that since it has the 6-bolt motor, it eliminates crankwalk. but anyway, what im really gettin at is...is it safe to use an old car with A TON of miles? or will i run into too many problems with different aspects of the car?

2nd Gen Eclipse GSX cost alot (95-99) depending wich years. I find alot of 1st Gen Talon Tsi AWD for 5000 bucks or lower where i live. i think im gonna be goin for the 1 gen, cuz i dont want the crankwalk..

I can name a dozen friends with 1Gs that run 12s or better, and they all have between 100k and 180k miles. So yes, its ok ;) Just remember its only the 90-92s that have 6 bolts, and there is the rarely seen in the wild 7 bolt 92... So beware. If you get the engine rebuilt, it doesnt cost much to do it up a little. Just putting 2g pistons on your 1g rods is a 500+ WHP motor, and doing rods and pistons is always an option. Check out www.slowboyracing.com for motor rebuild prices. Other DSM vendors do it as well, but they are usually more expensive. Stock 1g head is also good to 0ver 500 whp and 8500 rpm. Lets say a 2g like mine is worth 6-7k. You can pick up a 91 AWD talon for 2k, and put the other 5j into modding it. OR put 2k in a motor if yo dont trust the one it came with, and still have 3k to mod it. Either way, there is no way you cant get into the 12s if you spend your money on the right mods. :) Good luck.

thanks a lot 95 GSXracer! that was exactly what i was lookin for! one more thing though, are there any parts on the car that i should worry about/look at other than the motor itself (axles, brakes, etc...)? i read that there was a recall for some year of teh 1g GSX for the O2 sensor, but they didnt say which year.

one more thing...does crankwalk occur at a certain HP level? or does it depend on the condition of the engine? im just sayin this because im looking around her, and there are just as few 1G awds as 2Gawds. so would 400hp cause probs on a 2G?

I dont know of any O2 sensor recall, and they get changed often anyway. But there was a recall on the transfer case that you should get checked out. MAke sure its been done already. CW is completely independant of power. In fact, of the 3 motors that CWed on me, the one that ran 12s its whole life lasted the longest. :) As far as what cars get it it seems to be completely random. Stock clutch, auto tranny, whatever, they all still get it. Go to the forums in my sig, DSM section, and read the sticky on crankwalk. Everything I know about it should be in there. Just keep in mind that crankwalk IS pretty rare. ;)

i was lookin at the SBR site, and i really like the stage 1 block and regular (no stage) head. question about that though...is it a 6 or 7 bolt? i think that id like to put in that block (if its a 6) no matter which year/engine i get. i just cant find any site that advertises rockers for the 4G63. SBR sells the cams, and since the valves/srpings/retainers r already in the head, i would just need the rockers adn the gaskets. am i wrong?

another thing... http://www.fasterthanyou.com/4g63_engines.cfm
shoes a 4g63, but for 2300+, i only say this because they STATE THAT IT COMES IN A 6 BOLT! (which SBR does not state). does that mean that the VT is the only motor that will b a 6?

PS: im sorry, i know all my posts are long winded and have many questions.

On SBRs site, and most others, its assumed that you will be building a 6 bolt ;) Most poeple dont bother building up 7 bolts. But they can do those as well. Some vendors refuse to do 7 bolts, because if it walks through no fault of the builder, they usually end up having to cover the warranty.... Also, we never replace the "cam followers" (rockers). Just reuse them. I've never seen or heard of a bad one. Wouldnt hurt to take a look at them though.

Edit: Try to supply a core. That is, if you are getting a 6 bolt built, try to supply a 6 bolt core. Its not required, but it helps everyone out. It can be hard for SBR and other vendors to find cores at times. I usually bring him a few when I go down there to keep him stocked up. If you really cant get one though, no bother.
