The D16y8 isn't bad. It's in the Civic Ex and an earlier version(D16z6) was in older Civic and Sol Si's. 1.6L SOHC VTEC with 127hp and about 106 ft-lbs of torque at 6800rpm, I believe. It's a sound motor with good potential. There's an AF member (whose handle escapes me) with a D16 in his Sol and he claims to be running mid 13s NA. Personally, I believe him. I've done very little with my D16 and I can smoke my friends 99 Civic Ex :bananasmi , and I can almost keep up with my other friends 96 Integra LS  . They both have cold air intakes and cat-backs compaired to my short ram and muffler(side note: I have a D16z6. Earlier D model, but near identical to D16y8). So yeah those motors do have potential, but if I had a choice, I'd go for a Sol with a B16 instead. The 1.6 DOHC VTEC gives you 160hp and 116ft-lbs torque at 7800rpm. The B16 is just a little better of a platform to start with. Besides, you'll get better suspension with a DOHC VTEC Sol. Better suspension...faster cornering...quicker lap times...more fun! If all you can get is a Sol Si with a D series, go ahead and get it. There's plenty that can be done with that powerplant and you'll still get your share of speeding tickets. :naughty: I'd rather work with a B series myself, is all.

y8 is plenty good, like any d series VTEC parts are cheap and available. you spend some time and money on that motor and you will be happy i promise... P.S. I have a friend with a z6 in a gutted hatch that runs high 12's on slicks with a similar setup to mine except with gude head and manifold...
