lol, where here i go again, i hate to sound like a broken record here on the forum, but i will almost always say, for a daily driven third gen with TPI, go with the vortec heads all the way. soggin dickey makes a TPI/Vortec manifold for a bolt on operation, no mods nessesary, so for less than 900 bucks, you can have the vortec heads, and a matched, much better flowin TPI base plate, on your engine. if memory serves, this should be worth around 50 hp on an otherwise stock engine. obviously a new cam, siamised runners, larger throttle body, and better pistons will make it conciderably stronger. if you want i can even send you flow numbers on the vortecs, and you can compair them to other heads, i also have flow on ported vortecs that are pretty damn impressive, and put my theoretical 327 small block at around 430 hp and 440lbs/ft of torque naturally asperated with a pump gas friendly 10 to 1 compression and a relitively small cam, and it never goes below 400 lbs ft of torque from idle to 4400 rpm. thats using desktop dyno.

Sounds good to me Mr.89. That is a good proven package.
I swapped heads on a friend's I.R.O.C. He brought the parts, I did the labor. He opted for some aluminum A.F.R.s and a Linginfelter cam. He had the runners and exhaust from a prievous mod.
Sad to say, he went to pass a rig and fish-tailed it under the trailer. Smashed everything from the radiator forward. Needless to say, it ran pretty good.

nice package, if you can afford the A.F.R.'s that is the way to go, especially the aluminum ones. and linginfelter is a man who knows what hes doing. the vortecs are kinda the band aid fix for the stock motor, but go with hotrod on the AFR's and lingenfelter if you are getting serious. sorry to hear about your friends accident though, always a shame when a car like that bites it.

I guess that's proof to why the "real" IROCs are getting so scarce. They seem to come to a brutal death.
There are rumors that some local guy has a clean/low mileage IROC stored in his garage, on jacks, and under covers.
Lucky dude for sure !!!!!!

yeah no lie. saw on on ebay. it was a 89 like mine, but garage kept, oil changed every 200 miles. and get this. 1600 original miles. it was CHERRY!!!! apparently the guy bought it for his wife as an anaversary present, and she just never drove it. just sat in the garage. but he took car of it. so it was in great shape. stunning car. had no reserve, and the bidding was already up to around 15K and there was another week to go on bidding.
